Fighting time difference: Australia and Paris 2024 Games As Australia gears up to follow the Paris 2024 Games, the challenge of time zone differences looms large. However, a novel initiative by the Australian Olympic Committee promises to overcome this hurdle and recreate the festive, collective atmosphere of the Games. The "Olympics and Paralympics LIVE" project is set to bring communities together in a way that echoes the shared spirit and celebration of the Games. At its core lies the transformation of local clubs, schools, universities, municipal councils, and community groups into mini fan zones, mirroring the excitement and communal atmosphere of the classical fan zones found at the Games themselves. A true sense of belonging and shared enthusiasm as fans come together to watch the events. These gatherings will create a festive environment where fans can celebrate (or commiserate) together. This collective experience is crucial for maintaining the social fabric that sports events like the Olympics and Paralympics traditionally weave among their audiences. The simplicity of accessing "Olympics and Paralympics LIVE" through a straightforward registration on the NOC website creates a positive feedback loop for the Australian olympic committee: more visibility, more registration, more appeal and more promotion of their national sponsors. Watching and celebrating the achievements of their domestic athletes together will reinforce the already existing strong sense of national pride and community spirit. For us, these collective viewing experiences remind us that the Games are not just about the competitions but also about coming together to support our athletes and celebrate their accomplishments. This shared pride and enthusiasm resonate deeply, reinforcing the communal bonds that sports uniquely cultivate. #Sport #Olympics #togetherness #Celebration #nationbranding #softpower #Australia https://lnkd.in/dk5UVzg3

This first post Paris Olympics week is still carrying the buzz of excitement and inspiration! What was it about this Olympics that had many of us at hello?! Paris’ historic beauty is undeniable. In collaboration with the greatest sporting event on this planet, it was the first Olympics with full gender parity and delivered across 32 sports many magnificent moments, heartbreaking defeats, moving stories of the athlete’s pilgrimage to get there, fun entertainment (Snoop Dogg did not disappoint!), excellent “play by play” coverage and unity. For all of the upheaval in various parts of the world, the ability of the global sports communities to come together in respect and support, even in the throes of intense competition, was a master class in how to do it. -Lift one another up and celebrate the achievements -Learn from the experiences -Recognize the generations of Olympic athletes who came before and paved the way to be better, along with the competitors who pushed the level of performances to the highest and best in the moment -Appreciate all of it and the village of people who were an integral part of the journey While there were issues; some that could be quickly addressed and resolved, some that required an alternate plan and others that are still smarting from a questionable decision, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games captured our heart's and broke many records. #ParisOlympics #WaytogoUSA #lovewhatyoudo #teamwork #healthandwellbeing #LA2028

99 DAYS TO GO… or 99 LUFTBALLONS? I’ll dance to Nena any day like nobody’s watching. So, ACHTUNG…BABY! But really, even 999 of those colorful thingies floating, rattling and humming across Zooropa would HOLD NOTHING next to: 5 rings, 17 days, 329 sport events, 10,500 athletes from 206 Nations, 15 million cheering fans, Billions watching from any corner with a TV, YouTube, or Tik Tok. #PickYourTech … And 73 refugees competing on behalf of the purest form of the human spirit. These ingredients will mean everything- and nothing- once THE FLAME glows over Paris as we witness the latest edition of a most universal encounter. This will be everything but a “Cheap Trick”. Before wokey naysayers (rarest breed in the wonderfully enigmatic country that is France 😜) move to “cancel” it with accusations of being an “egregious show of financial waste”, warn of logistical chaos & mayhem, or throw shade on it as “rich-country hubris only fit for geopolitical size queens”, let’s consider the potential of the PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC GAMES to: • Inspire an entire new generation born this side of Y2K, •Create opportunities for athletes, small businesses and communities in France, and • Leave a positive, lasting mark on humanity’s collective consciousness. What a veritable obligation for PEOPLE and BRANDS involved to honor this opportunity by doing our jobs while staying true to the Olympic Games founding principles of Excellence, Respect, and Amity. And with the humility to contribute to and believe in something greater than ourselves. What a blessing and joy… and I haven’t even gotten started on the Paralympics! #ComingSoon Summer Is Coming. Let’s Do This. Will you join us? #PasSansVous Visa #Paris2024 Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024

If you also had the opportunity to watch #Paris2024 #Olympics closing ceremony live, and you were close to being teary like me, you would probably understand that sports do have real power! Sports do have the power to unite people across cultures, and backgrounds. How? Universal language: Sports transcend language barriers, allowing people to connect and communicate through a shared passion. Accessibility: Many sports can be played, as well as enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, making them accessible to a wide range of participants. My favorite lesson from the Paralympics? Humor builds resilience, and shifts focus from limitations to empowerment. Take Assunta Legnante, the Italian visually impaired shot put and discus throw legend. Since her London debut, she's claimed three golds and three silvers. In Paris, she competed wearing a Mona Lisa eye mask - a masterclass in self-confidence and humor. Asked about the 2028 LA Games, Assunta responded: "I can't wait to go to and see the US because I have never been there. Obviously, I won't be able to 'see' America this time either, but I absolutely want to go to LA." This isn't just about sports. It's a life lesson. Paralympians like Assunta leverage humor to own their narratives and redefine challenges. They show us that humor isn't merely a coping mechanism; it's a powerful tool to connect, break down barriers, and build resilience. When used wisely, a good joke or a touch of self-deprecation can help us navigate life's complexities with grace and strength. I want to embrace their playbook because, as someone once said, I strongly believe that, in the end, a laugh will save us all. Image credit: Getty Images
