On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending the Blue Springs Chamber Lunch & Learn, where the focus was on empowering often-overlooked talent pools in our workforce. Each panelist detailed their experience working with these individuals and the benefits it had to both the company and the employee. Thank you to the panelists Bobby Hines, Corey Martin, and Karvel Kofoed for their insight on such an important topic. Bobby shared insightful perspectives on how businesses can create opportunities for justice-involved individuals, providing them a second chance and benefiting from their dedication and untapped potential. Providing a justice-involved individual a second chance not only fills critical roles in the workforce but also helps uplift our community by fostering growth and inclusion. Corey emphasized the immense value that veterans bring to the workplace. With their keen eye for detail, veterans are trained far beyond the capabilities of most civilians. They excel in teamwork, know how to follow directions precisely and adapt quickly to dynamic situations. It's important to create pathways for their successful transition back into civilian careers and by doing so businesses can fully leverage these unmatched skills. Karvel talked about the value of “experienced” or post-retired professionals, pointing out how much knowledge and reliability they bring to the table. Businesses can benefit from their mentorship and the seasoned perspective they offer, especially when it comes to tackling tough challenges. They have a depth of experience that sparks innovation, and their strong work ethic and traditional values lead to a higher level of dedication. Bringing older professionals on board not only strengthens collaboration between generations and boosts company culture, but it also gives them a continued sense of purpose, and belonging, and a way to share their expertise in a meaningful way. As businesses, we have the chance to shape a more diverse and resilient workforce by embracing individuals from all walks of life. I’ve got one word for this year. Its ’simplification.’ And my first rule with this new philosophy is a very simple rule indeed… It’s the rule of three. With how we position our services. With how we position our talent. With everything. There’s a lot of ‘stuff’ out there. An overwhelming amount. So I’m simplifying my life and using the rule of three to plan my first Half year in objectives. 1. Finish packaging up our services and who we want to work with. 🤙 We spent a lot of time last year segmenting the market, working out who we want to work with and packaging up the work we do in the talent world. By the end of this quarter, we’ll have a very easy and totally unique way for agencies and brands to hire their top 1%. 2. Our culture and how we get things done. 🫶🏼 We need to ditch the stuff that isn't serving us. We need to report, share, shout about the stuff that matters. And, after a year of doing lots of stuff that isn’t recruitment, I’m looking forward to giving everyone time to get world class at what they came here to do. 3. I’m going to quadruple the amount of time I’m spending with leaders. 🤝 For about 2 years, I focused quite heavily on being in and ‘on’ the business. And that meant I missed out doing what I love doing most… meeting the people that make up this industry. So, if I met 25 new CEO’s last year, I want to meet 100 this year. That works out to be about 1.92 people a week. That’s exactly the same amount of Creative Directors Molly Jennings plans on finding new and cool homes for. Eeeeeasssy 🤌🏼

It's hard to believe that just at the beginning of 2023, I started my journey at #Gartner. Today, I'm humbled to call myself a Senior Account Management Specialist after months of preparation and support from my amazing manager Kelcy Niccum, and my lovely team. Reflecting on this whirlwind adventure, five key lessons have emerged: 1. Vulnerability trumps perfection: I learned that sharing my struggles and failures got me closer to my success stories. 2. Curating a 12-week year: 1-2 big goals, break down your overall goals and objectives into smaller, more manageable quarterly plans. This involves setting specific goals, outlining key initiatives and tasks, and assigning resources for each quarter. 3. Community thrives on giving: Don't just consume, contribute. Share your knowledge, offer support, and celebrate others' wins. Kelcy Niccum & Keily J. Vasquez has been key to developing this culture on our team. 4. Stories paint vivid pictures: Facts tell, stories show. Active listening and understanding of the pain points. Matthew Petek, Emily Ayres, & Chandler Kennedy--- thank you for your support along the way. 5. Consistency is the backbone of trust: Show up, engage, and deliver value regularly. I wouldn't be here without the unwavering support from an Employee-centric culture at Gartner. Thank you, Matthew K. Mullery and Michael Kirsten.
