One lesser-known aspect related to cancer care is the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing health-related social needs and improving patient outcomes. Here are some lesser-known points about AI in cancer care: 1. Personalized Support Services: AI algorithms can analyze vast amounts of patient data, including medical records, socioeconomic information, and personal preferences, to tailor support services to individual needs. This may include connecting patients with community resources, financial assistance programs, support groups, or transportation services based on their specific circumstances. 2. Predictive Analytics: AI models can predict potential barriers to care or adverse outcomes by analyzing patterns in patient data. This proactive approach enables healthcare providers to intervene early and implement targeted interventions to mitigate risks, improve treatment adherence, and enhance overall quality of life for cancer patients. 3. Virtual Health Assistants: AI-powered virtual assistants, chatbots, or mobile applications can provide real-time support and guidance to patients, answering questions, offering educational resources, scheduling appointments, and providing reminders for medication or follow-up care. These digital companions serve as accessible and scalable resources for patients navigating their cancer journey. 4. Clinical Decision Support: AI systems assist healthcare providers in making evidence-based treatment decisions by analyzing patient data, medical literature, and treatment guidelines. These tools help oncologists personalize treatment plans, identify optimal therapeutic options, and predict treatment responses based on individual patient characteristics, ultimately improving clinical outcomes and reducing treatment-related complications. 5. Precision Medicine: AI facilitates the development of precision oncology approaches by analyzing genomic data and molecular profiles to identify specific biomarkers associated with cancer subtypes, prognosis, and treatment response. This enables oncologists to recommend targeted therapies or clinical trials tailored to the unique molecular profile of each patient's tumor, potentially improving treatment efficacy and minimizing side effects.
Nobody is fully prepared to hear the words, “You have cancer,” said to either themselves or a loved one, even for those of us in the medical field. For the 1.9 million people expected to be diagnosed with cancer each year, life becomes fundamentally reshaped around those three words, with important details to learn and major decisions to make. At the same time, there are also practical matters to sort out — arranging transportation to appointments, figuring out care for children or assistance for an elderly parent, managing other day-to-day responsibilities, affording out-of-pocket costs. Countless non-medical factors can impact a person’s cancer journey and quality of life. American Cancer Society is committed to supporting people with cancer by addressing these health-related social needs and removing barriers to care. Today is World Cancer Day. The theme is "Close The Care Gap." This has been the theme since 2022. Black people have the highest rates of GETTING and DYING from different types of cancer. Overall, Black people have the highest death rate for cancer. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among Black women. Even though white women are more likely to get breast cancer, Black women are more likely to die from the disease. Prostate cancer death rates in Black men are more than double those of every other racial/ethnic group. These numbers are mostly due to *racism * medical misogyny/seismic * late stage diagnosis * institutional inequalities * health disparities, among other reasons This #BlqckHistoryMonth and always, I urge us to take our health and lifestyle seriously. Go for screenings and advocate for yourself always. #WorldCancerDay #SRHR #Feminist #Health #Cancer

I want to take a moment to reflect on the strength, courage, and resilience of the countless women and men affected by this illness. Breast cancer is not just a medical condition—it’s a deeply personal journey, impacting individuals and families in ways many of us can barely imagine. It’s a journey filled with fear, uncertainty, but also incredible hope, love, and support. To those who have battled, are currently fighting, or are supporting someone through this, you have our deepest admiration. You remind us daily of the power of the human spirit, and that even in the face of immense challenges, we can find strength together. Let’s all do our part—whether it’s through supporting research, advocating for regular checkups, or simply being there for those who need us. Early detection saves lives, and the more we spread awareness, the more hope we can offer. To everyone affected by breast cancer, directly or indirectly, know that we stand with you. 💗 #BreastCancerAwareness #SupportAndLove #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #TogetherWeFight #HopeAndStrength"

“Unremarkable” is a word you want to hear during a breast cancer examination. And today, I was lucky enough to be “unremarkable”. Women I love have been affected by this unforgiving disease and the more we talk about it, the more we can bring it out of the shadow and into the light of discussion. Organizations that actively support awareness campaigns, demonstrate consideration for the women in the workforce. Get yourself checked! Be unremarkable! #breastcancerawareness #womenshealth #corporatehealth #wellbeing
