Tonight is the big night at the LABC Grand Finals Building Excellence Awards! 🎉
Last year, Oak Grange Primary School project clinched the regional title for Best Public or Community Building.
Completed in August 2023, Oak Grange Primary School has brought 315 primary school places and a 39-place nursery to the vibrant and expanding community of Snelsmoor Grange and Fellow Lands Way.
In partnership with Morgan Sindall Construction and SCAPE. Oak Grange marks the fourth school we've successfully delivered for Derby City Council.
Wishing our team the best of luck tonight! Discover more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/eq67TXy3#BuildingExcellence#LABCAwards#Community

Kudos to Commissioner Lissette Castañeda, Illinois Housing Development Authority, and RAGE (Resident Association of Greater Englewood) for bringing this closed school to community serving and oriented revitalization. The damage and aftermath of the closure, challenging in its own right, is exacerbated by the more than decade long period of a former community anchor remaining dormant and inoperative.
Ja'Net Defell, PMP, LEED Green Associate- identifying a commercial use with some prospect of profitability within a development like this, or immediately adjacent, could be a great investment for a CIV, leveraging and building community wealth with public investment.

NEWS❗Wheeling, West Virginia, plans to demolish the former Clay School in East Wheeling to build a new multi-purpose recreation center.
The center will serve seniors and children while integrating community spaces like J.B. Chambers Memorial Recreation Park and the Nelson Jordan Center.
Guided by developer Tipping Point, the project has strong community support, especially among residents aged 20 to 35, and aims to transform the site into a vibrant community hub. Design and budget details are still being finalized.

Exciting announcement!
Our next step in developing a robust and impactful offer for young people across Derby focuses on utilising Community Libraries as 'Youth Centre Hubs' as dynamic spaces for engagement and growth. These hubs will serve as accessible, inclusive, and multi-functional environments that foster learning, creativity, and social connections for young people from diverse backgrounds.
By leveraging the unique potential of libraries as safe and welcoming spaces, combined with the vibrant energy of youth centre activities, we aim to create a holistic approach that meets the educational, recreational, and emotional needs of our youth. This initiative will provide opportunities for skill-building, mentorship, cultural enrichment, and support services, ensuring that young people are empowered to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
Our vision includes collaborating with local organisations, schools, and community leaders to co-design programs that resonate with the needs and aspirations of young people. From digital literacy workshops and career readiness programs to arts, sports, and mental health support, these hubs will be equipped to offer a wide spectrum of resources and experiences.
This strategic step for our organisation represents our commitment to building a connected, resilient community where young people are not just participants but active contributors to their growth and the betterment of Derby as a whole.

Places for People, Places Impact are supporting Broughton and Brooklands Community Connectors and Broughton Fields School to run their 'Lanterns of Hope' project.
We have awarded BBCC a Community Connector Grant to enable this community project organised by Broughton Fields Primary in collaboration with BBCC. The project will involve children, local groups and residents creating lanterns from mason jars, tissue paper, and LED lights, which will be displayed in windows across the neighbourhood.
Places for People have a large number of customers living and working within the Broughton and Brooklands area of Milton Keynes. This is a great opportunity for us to work with local partners and schools following our Christmas Tree installation at Brooklands Square and Christmas Party in at Broughton Pavilion.

Why are public universities vital to the economy of the region they serve? Here's a solid example: in 2023, the MN legislature allocated $5M to support infrastructure projects in Minnesota jurisdictions, including Tribal nations, with fewer than 15,000 people. The Empowering Small Minnesota Communities program is a community-centered collaboration with the University of Minnesota to support small communities in becoming well-positioned to benefit from federal, state, and local investments. The program’s first grant cycle funded 35 projects across Minnesota. In a time when trust in public institutions is eroding, efforts such as this are critical to drive impact across the rural areas of America.
