Looking forward European Health Forum Gastein and the opportunity to discuss Civil Society engagement and participation. As civil society, how can we ensure that the voices of all communities, especially the most vulnerable, are heard? Nothing for Us, Without us! How can we leverage evidence and amplify researchers' voices amidst infodemics and fake news? What strategies can we employ to engage in policy making and act as boundary spanners? How can we bring policies back to the communities we serve? Transparency, accountability, and impact – these are some of the questions we need to address.

🇪🇺European Health Forum Gastein 26 September 2024 session: “Safeguarding #CivilSociety participation in health policy making". 🎓 Organised by the The University of Edinburgh in the context of the Better Regulation for Better Health project 🗣 Chaired by Charlotte Marchandise of EUPHA - European Public Health Association with Eleanor Brooks of The University of Edinburgh and Stefan Schreck of DG SANTE-European Commission "Civic engagement is essential to ensure a thriving democracy that promotes and protects health. It requires institutional structures that facilitate participation, active outreach on the part of policymakers, and a vibrant, protected civic space. In the context of growing pressures, and with a new Parliament and Commission in place, this session launches a conversation about the role of civil society in EU health policymaking, and how the EU civic space can be safeguarded. The panel will introduce the current pathways for consultation in health policymaking, the Commission’s approach to stakeholder collaboration, and the challenges facing civil society organisations. An interactive discussion with participants will gather experiences and best practice to explore how the link from citizen to policymakers and institutions, as a core factor of a healthy European democracy, can be strengthened." 💻 Online and in-person https://lnkd.in/erJUC_Pg Ilona Kickbusch Martin McKee Natasha Azzopardi Muscat Tamsin Rose Francesca Colombo Freek Spinnewijn Caroline Costongs Monika Kosinska Matthias Wismar Tessa Richards Usman Khan Siegfried Walch Dorli Kahr-Gottlieb

🌟 Exploring Day 1 of the European Public Health Week: Health is a political choice: Starting the discussion 🗣💚 For the first day of the #EUPHW, we invite you to explore the intersection of health and politics. Event Highlights for Monday 🔸 Kick-off Event: Webinar - organised by EUPHA and partners 🔸 Radical Community Management Training 🔸 High-Level Panel: Lessons Learned and Future Challenges - a hybrid event co-organised with the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, and the European Commission's DG SANTE. 📣To prepare this high-level panel, we invite you to debate in the comments on how the Covid pandemic impacted public health practices and policies. For Peter Allebeck, the Covid pandemic taught us that “as scientists, we need to learn to speak the political language without pretending to be politicians.” Martin McKee shares with us that “we failed to hear the views of those who were most affected by our decisions”. He insists that next time “We must make sure that everybody’s voice is heard.” To guide us, our panellists Agnes Buzyn, Francesca Colombo, Hans Kluge Sandra Gallina and Sara Cerdas will reflect on lessons learned and future challenges in European (and global) public health, with a special focus on innovation. 🤝 Let’s join forces and amplify our voice to bridge the gap between health and politics, and make sure that health stay high on the political agenda! #EUPHW #HealthIsAPoliticalChoice #UseYourVote #UseYourVote4Health #Vote4Health #HealthUnion Emilia Aragón De León / Iveta Nagyova / Tit Albreht / Josep Figueras

In Australia, we have the opportunity to build on our leadership in living evidence to further our understanding of the living evidence model and create mechanisms that enable translation of living evidence into evidence-informed policy. A national research agenda that is achieved through collaboration may strengthen not only the evidence-into-policy architecture in Australia but also enable Australia to lead this field internationally. Living evidence is a framework for building and maintaining a current and rigorous synthesis of knowledge within a scientific area. The NSW Health Clinical Intelligence Unit, which sits within the Clinical Innovation and Research Division at the Ministry of Health, has living evidence tables and uses the approach for Horizon Scanning, thus helping the NSW health system to prepare for opportunities to harness advances emerging from health research and innovation. Read a paper written in collaboration between Kim Sutherland, The Office for Health and Medical Research's Executive Director, Samantha Chakraborty, Alex Collie, Sally Green and Tari Turner from Monash University, Rebecca Hodder and Luke Wolfenden from University of Newcastle, Suman Majumdar and Joshua Vogel from Burnet Institute, Bernie Towler from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, and Andrew Wilson from University of Sydney. They believe there is an opportunity to realise the substantial benefits of living evidence for health systems, and to lead this field internationally by encouraging living evidence use in health policy and establishing an Australian research agenda to understand and advance living evidence for policy. 🔍 Unified call for a step-change in how we address health behaviours - published in Elsevier’s Public Health in Practice. Enabling, supporting and promoting positive health-related behaviours is more than necessary—it is essential in tackling the biggest public health challenges of our time. Last year’s first ever regional meeting on behavioural and cultural insights (BCI) for health, marked an important step towards advancing the use of BCI in our Region. Meeting participants joined together in developing a statement that calls for public health to embrace a more evidence-based and systematic approach to behaviours. This approach will refine policies, services and communications addressing health behaviours, ensuring better and more equitable health outcomes for everyone.
