Kind of regret getting rid of this many years ago. Welded the frame myself. I really liked the days when engineering was more art than computer, more hand-eye than command prompts, more pen and ink than plotter. #drafting #engineering #pencildrawing #art #blueprint
I turned my whiteboard into one of these you can buy the parts on Amazon
That's a nice vintage drafting board right there! I got to design on one for just the first 3 years of my career ... so used an eraser machine much more than the mechanical pencils or Rotring ink pens! As a neophyte, it was a bit intimidating having your designs up on the board (often at full scale) for all to see and critique!
At MSOE I was the last class to take graphics on the board. If you miss your board enough I have two in my parents house that if you can get it out of the basement …. Lol.
I can smell the ammonia of the prints, now...
"It's HUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGE!"
I remember when the last board was moved out of the Warton DO. It had seen everything from Lightning to Eurofighter to various uncrewed spooky things. There was a real End of an Era feeling (fin de siecle at Dassault?). As an aside, designers who'd had no trouble making a 3D item into a 2D representation wondered how they'd be able to work in a space that was 3D from the get-go. That was obviously a temporary issue because those people will have retired by now. Might be a dissertation there for somebody.
This makes my mullet want to grow back out. 😁
😍still use one between the 2D and 3D CAD as part of design & redesign process. Also part of the worst case scenario.

10moI was the last generation to use both the board and the computer. I’ll take the computer any day. We can do so much more now. Great to sketch early on in the design process to get ideas out. But when we get down to the details nothing beats modern CAD.
