Have you spotted green and brown sludge washed up at the beach or shoreline? Wondering if it's sewage? It's actually seaweed! Our team headed out to Dumbarton after a recent report of pollution. After careful inspection, Environmental Protection Officers confirmed this harmless debris was the result of high tides and washed up seaweed. Environmental protection is so important and so often overlooked by businesses, what is environmental protection you ask? It focuses on safeguarding the environment from pollution and degradation. It involves monitoring and controlling factors such as air quality, water quality, soil contamination, and waste management. Environmental management and protection measures aim to reduce the negative impact of human activities, emissions and hazardous materials on ecosystems, wildlife and natural resources. #EHS #safety #oneplanet #safetyguru #safetycoach

CLEAN WATER UPDATE: Coalition Takes Action Against EPA for Failing to Implement Clean Water Act The Environmental Integrity Project, Waterkeeper Alliance, and Center for Biological Diversity today sent to EPA a notice of intent to sue the agency for its failure to implement a key requirement of the federal Clean Water Act: issuing national reports on water quality. The landmark 1972 law requires EPA to report on the condition of America’s streams, rivers, lakes and estuaries at least once every two years. But EPA’s last national water quality report was released seven years ago, in 2017, according to the notice, which is the first required step before a federal lawsuit. In addition to this legal action, a broader national coalition of 50 clean water organizations sent a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan today urging the agency to also fix two other major problems: Failing, for decades in some cases, to update and strengthen technology-based standards for industry water pollution control systems; and not identifying the funding needed to fulfill EPA’s Clean Water Act responsibilities. With the Environment Agency having just published 2023’s staggering increase in sewage discharges, South West Water appears determined to increase the level of sewage pollution still further in 2024………! As an example, Portreath on Cornwall’s north coast has only had 2 days free from sewage discharges since the 1st November 2023……..almost 5 months of continuous sewage pollution! With last years figures evidencing that just 22% of South West Water discharges were down to “exceptional weather”, it remains the case that the vast majority of its pollution is in contravention of its duties under the Water Industry Act 1991. Where are the Environment Agency and what action are they going to take? #sewagescandal #sickofsewage

It's National Pollution Prevention Week (September 16-20, 2024)! And what exactly is Pollution Prevention or P2? It's reducing or eliminating pollution at the source before it's created and offers the smartest, most proactive approach to environmental management. The members of the Maryland Green Registry offer hundreds of examples through their online member profiles and as you can see, it all adds up! https://buff.ly/3z7HXCa #MDGreenRegistry

Today, June 8 is World Oceans Day. The EPA has important rules to help protect our oceans, and it’s good to know a bit about them. Here are a few of them: 🔹 Clean Water Act (CWA): This law helps keep pollutants out of our waters, making sure our oceans stay clean and safe. 🔹 Ocean Dumping Act (MPRSA): This one stops people from dumping harmful stuff into the ocean. It’s all about keeping our marine life and waters healthy. 🔹 NPDES Permits: These permits control what gets discharged into our waters, reducing pollution and protecting our oceans. Want to learn more about these regulations or need help staying compliant? Check out the EPA’s website or get in touch with the Contractor Approval Network (CAN) at 602-962-5136 or justin.dutmers@canapproval.com. Let’s keep our oceans clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. 🌏💙 #WorldOceansDay #EPA #OceanConservation #CleanWaterAct #OceanDumpingAct #EnvironmentalProtection #SaveOurOceans

The correct answer is…C! According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, toilets are the main source of water use in the home. Older, inefficient toilets can use as much as 6 gallons per flush- making them a major source of wasted water. Newer toilets use less than 2 gallons per flush- which can save you more than $140 per year in water costs. Interested in upgrading? Give us a call at 757-505-7335.
