A historic Coventry venue has reopened under new management with plans to re-establish it as a premier event space in the Cathedral Quarter. I’m now five weeks into my new job at the NEC Group and I’ve been loving learning all about our venues, with a particular focus on the beautiful city-centre venue The ICC Birmingham. Put very simply, my job is to promote not just our venues but also Birmingham as the ideal destination to host any kind of event. So, this is what I have learned: Quite simply, Birmingham is awesome. I knew that already as a Brummie but I think everyone else should too! It welcomes over 1 million international visitors each year and has a booming economy. What’s more, its central location and excellent transport links make it incredibly accessible by air, rail or car – in fact 90% of the UK’s population live within a four-hour drive of Birmingham! As for the ICC itself, it’s considered to be one of Europe’s premier conference venues and has flexible space to accommodate from 10 to 2,000+ delegates. Plus, the location is unbeatable with stunning canal views, vibrant bars and restaurants right next door, and get this: award-winning catering (think fresh, local, and seriously delicious - over 650 awards can't be wrong!). 80% of the food is sourced from local suppliers meaning it is not only fresh but environmentally friendly. So in short, if any of my contacts - whether you are an association, charity or corporate company – are planning any kind of event whether it’s a meeting for 10 people, a large conference, a product launch or gala dinner, you should really be considering Birmingham as your location.
