Did anybody manage to get over to Southport for the airshow this weekend? Anybody going to Farnborough? What about RIAT? Our CEO Jerrod Hartley has featured in the Aerospace Magazine Farnborough Edition, and it's well worth a read if you have a bit of time, and although he won't be in personal attendance at Farnborough, he will be down in Fairford for the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT 2024) at the end of the week. https://lnkd.in/ek-UQhJK An airshow is a great opportunity to stand back and appreciate why we do what we do. Seeing these great machines in action is impressive, but also an opportunity for reflection. It wasn't really that long ago since Wilbur and Orville Wright created the first successful heavier than air flying machine, the Wright Flyer, in 1903, where it achieved a powered flight of 59 seconds covering a distance of 259 metres. It's incredible how far we've come in a relatively short space of time, with modern aircraft with incredible safety and performance profiles. Take the Eurofighter Typhoon for example, which entered service way back in 2003, with some mightily impressive stats: Top speed - Mach 2.0 (approx. 1,550 mph) Ceiling - 55,000 feet Climb Rate - 0 to 36,000 feet in under 90 seconds Acceleration - subsonic to Mach 1.5 in under 30 seconds Thrust - 40,000 lb (equivalent to the weight of over 13 VW Golfs) So, here's to all the hard work, dedication, creative thinking, and human ingenuity that have driven our progress over the past several hundred years. Let's also toast to the future, where we will continue to push boundaries and overcome new challenges with the same dedication and vigour. At Farnborough International Air Show, #Leonardo has announced the launch of a comprehensive capability enhancement package for the #M346 integrated training system including the aircraft’s core avionics, navigation/identification, mission equipment and ground training capabilities. The move reflects the training needs to align pilot’s skills to the evolution dictated by modern multi-domain battlefields, combat air technology, and information management.   This latest development leverages the inherent growth capability embedded into the M-346 design as well as ten years of proven in-service experience with leading air forces across geographies and is an integral part of the broader organisational digitization roadmap initiative, fully consistent with Leonardo’s longer-term strategy. As such, both #training and #fighter variants will benefit from these enhancements to deliver even greater capabilities to the market for a wide spectrum of applications, while implying significant margin for further developments in the future. The #M346T Block 20’ and #M346F Block 20’ are the designations for the new standard. The new #Block20 standard will not be limited to the platform itself, but rather to the entire system including the ground based training system and shall be enabled by the widespread implementation of #digitalization powered by #ArtificialIntelligence. Lorenzo Mariani, Co-General Manager of Leonardo, stated: “Training represents a core area of expertise at Leonardo and the M-346 integrated training system is the backbone of our value proposition to ensure fighter pilots are well prepared to face modern and complex air challenges, today and in the future. As we are fully involved into next generation combat air developments, this latest progress of the M-346 testifies that we’re making sure the most appropriate training solutions are thoroughly embedded in this commitment. Look up in the sky 🌤 It's a bird 🕊 It's a sky lantern 🏮 It's a weather balloon! 🎈 A party balloon too. Really. To launch one, my BEAR (Balloon Experiment carrying Amateur Radio) Team spent months preparing for it. A few weeks prior to launch we had to file our flight plans with the RSAF, CAAS and IMDA. 15mins before lift off, you can see me (in the photo) calling the airforce duty controller to get positive clearance for our "party balloon" to be released. We have launched our experimental balloons nine times so far. At least one of our balloons reached an altitude beyond 36km or 110,000feet 👩🚀 What we have learned: 🎈 #Regulations: study them in great detail and propose within limits. 🎈 Regulators: #respect and work with them. Give them time. 🎈 #Teamwork is critical to success, especially clarity of #roles and trust. 🎈 Variables such as the weather are beyond our control. 🎈 Plan, Do, Check, Act, all the time. #PDCA Above all, #Hope is Not a Method. What a great week down at Farnborough International Airshow #FIA24 Whilst overall, aircraft orders and attendance are down, diversity (of product, and indeed people) is significantly higher. The show, and indeed wider industry are still recovering from the pandamic, but along with this comes a lot of positive change. Over the decade+ that we have been attending, the change is significant, and whilst the flying displays are certainly not what they were (and the lack of cold war jets upsets Apera-bot) the focus on the future more than makes up for this. Alongside this, ‘24s show was the first ever to allow public access to exhibition halls, helping inspire the next generation of engineers, pilots and innovators. There was a greater sense of ‘connection’ to the wider world, and we only see this as a good thing. There is a brave new world slowly commercialising, we can’t wait to see what the next decade will hold. #UnlockingHumanPotential
