Today, on International Women's Day, we join voices around the world to celebrate the progress and the ongoing journey towards gender equality in the workplace, particularly within traditionally male-dominated sectors like ours.
Norway, known for its pioneering efforts in gender equality, continues to set an inspiring example. A noteworthy highlight from our own backyard is Norsk Hydro's ambitious commitment under the leadership of CEO Hilde Merete Aasheim. Aiming to elevate female colleagues to higher ranks and leadership positions, Hydro is not just talking the talk but walking the walk towards changing the narrative. By 2025, the goal is to achieve a workforce with at least 25% women, including in leadership roles, in an industry where balancing the scales is not a challenge for the faint-hearted.
But our ambition doesn't stop at national borders. Our partners across the global metal industry are celebrating today in unison, showcasing their commitment to gender balance. Events like the Women With Metal – ALUMINIUM Awards" are just the tip of the iceberg, revealing a worldwide commitment to acknowledging and rewarding the contributions of women in our field.
As we reflect on these strides towards a more inclusive industry, let's also remember those who came before us and helped shaped our journey.
This International Women's Day, let's commit to not only celebrating achievements but also to forging ahead with unwavering dedication towards an better future. A future where gender no longer defines one's capacity to lead, innovate, and shape the world.
