The team from Antwerp University Hospital (#UZA) recently published a study titled "Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation Therapy in a Belgian Cohort of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patients" examines the efficacy of HGNS and provides valuable insights and shows significant improvements in both objective and subjective patient outcomes for Belgian patients. High levels of patient satisfaction and therapy adherence were observed and 92% of patients would choose HGNS therapy again and recommend it to others. FU assessments were conducted at 6 and 12 months post-implantation. Results at 6 Months FU: - AHI significantly decreased from 33.8 to 10.2 events per hour. - 80% of patients met the Sher20 criteria for surgical success. - ESS improved from 12.0 to 6.0. - Average therapy usage was 7.4 hours per night. Results were confirmed at 12 Months FU: - Median AHI further decreased to 9.6 events per hour. - 76% of patients met the Sher20 criteria for surgical success. - ESS scores improved to 6.5. - Average therapy usage remained high at 7.0 hours per night. - Mean disease alleviation (MDA) was 58%. #UZA #sleep #OSA #Inspire #Belgium Source:

Is your patient's heart skipping a beat? It might not be love - it could be sleep apnea. 🚨 Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is present in up to 49% of Atrial Fibrillation patients. This hidden link is a game-changer for dental sleep professionals. Did you know: Patients with severe OSA are nearly 5 times more likely to develop Atrial Fibrillation. CPAP therapy can reduce AF recurrence risk by almost 50%. This week's More Than Teeth🦷 newsletter dives deep into the OSA-AF connection. From intrathoracic pressure shifts to autonomic imbalance, we're uncovering why your screenings matter more than ever. Dentists, how are you addressing this critical overlap in your practice? Share your strategies or challenges below! https://buff.ly/4dFGnGF Want the full scoop? Check out the latest edition of More Than Teeth🦷 for actionable insights that could save lives. Your expertise is the heartbeat of preventive care!"

Obstructive Sleep Apnea can lead to changes in white matter integrity of the brain. In particular, in regions associated with mood, autonomic, and cardiovascular regulation. These alterations are indicative of impaired brain health and functionality (M. Rostampour et al., 2020). Read more on how OSA can effect brain function and how treating OSA, for example with CPAP, can help reduce these issues. #OSA #sleepapnea #CPAP #sleep #brain

Did you know that untreated sleep apnea can increase your risk of developing various cancers, including lung, kidney, and skin cancers? Studies show that severe sleep apnea can lead to a 65% higher risk of cancer and make you 2.5 times more likely to die from it. The good news? ✨ Effective sleep apnea therapies, like CPAP, can help reduce these risks by maintaining steady oxygen levels during sleep. This week we announced our strategic collaboration with Skye Bioscience Inc. to leverage our FDA 510(k)-cleared Dreem sleep EEG headband to characterize changes in sleep quality for the upcoming CBEYOND™ Phase 2 trial of Nimacimab, a CB1 inhibitor in development for obesity! Currently marketed GLP-1 agonists are approved for adults with 1) BMI greater than 30 or 2) BMI greater than 27 with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). In these populations, the prevalence of OSA is over 40% and can reach up to 90% in severe obesity. OSA leads to intermittent hypoxia at night and increased cardiovascular risk, which worsens metabolic symptoms and daytime cognitive function. As an innovative biotech in the weight loss space, Skye is taking a strong step towards a precision medicine approach by incorporating sleep EEG to further distinguish Nimacimab in a Phase 2 setting. Together, we have an enormous opportunity to better understand the link between metabolic health and sleep. We're excited to help Skye integrate quantitative sleep EEG endpoints to potentially transform treatment paradigms for obesity, obstructive sleep apnea, and beyond. 🧠✨ Exciting new research shows that a single dose of creatine can significantly boost cognitive performance and improve brain energy levels, even when you’re running low on sleep! This study highlights how creatine supports brain function by enhancing cerebral high-energy phosphates, making it a potential game-changer for those tough, sleep-deprived days. So next time you’re feeling the brain fog, consider adding creatine to your routine for that extra cognitive edge! 💪📚 #evexipel #evexias #CreatineBoost #BrainPower #womenshealth #menshealth Study | PMID: 38418482

1moHB, a qualitative measure, must replace the quantitative measurement of AHI. I have AHI of 7 patients who have worse of a H burden than some 27’s! Yet the 7s are told they have a “mild” case of OSA. And we know what patients do, or in this case don’t do, when they are told they have a mild case of something….
