Knowledge, data and information are foundational to progress and are linked to decision-making processes. In rural communities across India, access to knowledge plays a pivotal role in enhancing household income and livelihoods. To bolster income generation and facilitate knowledge dissemination within rural communities, Axis Bank Foundation's (ABF) Sustainable Livelihood Programme employs a multifaceted approach.
Through comprehensive trainings, skill development initiatives, farmer field schools, self-help groups, community mobilization efforts, and other innovative knowledge transfer methods, we aim to build robust knowledge systems that empower individuals and communities.
In Jharkhand, when water scarcity posed a significant challenge to local communities, we worked with Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) to introduce and strengthen the role of Wasundhara Sevaks (local community resource people) in knowledge transfer. The Wasundhara Sevaks were tasked with enhancing knowledge about water management. Through technical training sessions, meetings, and discussions, these Sevaks equipped communities with the necessary expertise to address water scarcity effectively. Eventually, the communities devised improved water management plans, which they presented to the Gram Sabha, leading to enhanced agricultural practices and increased income.
We foster a culture of continuous learning to build the sustenance capacity of rural communities. Our partnerships and collaborations are a reflection of that.
