The Singapore Institute Of Technology’s New Campus Is Built As A Hub Of Sustainability Summary: The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is set to open a new eco-campus in Punggol, Singapore, to celebrate its 10th anniversary in September 2024. This innovative campus integrates learning with industry and community, emphasizing sustainability and environmental responsibility. Here are key highlights: Campus Design and Environmental Integration The campus, designed by WOHA, features biophilic indoor-outdoor spaces, integrating academic blocks, a library, and link bridges with the surrounding secondary forest. The central courtyard preserves 1.7 hectares of forest, serving as a community park and green corridor for wildlife, promoting biodiversity in Punggol. The ground level is fully pedestrianized, allowing free movement of people, animals, and breezes, with elevated buildings that create shaded, breezy community spaces. Sustainability Features The campus achieves a 100% landscape replacement area, incorporating green walls, sky gardens, and an ecological pond to create a comfortable microclimate and facilitate social interactions. Active Beautiful Clean (ABC) stormwater management features cleanse runoff before discharging into public drains, enhancing the environmental impact of the project. Transport and Mobility Solutions The campus adopts a car-lite approach, reducing car parking spaces by 50% and providing over 500 bicycle parking lots with end-of-trip facilities. It promotes public transport and active mobility, minimizing vertical transportation systems to encourage walking across social nodes and amphitheaters. The Collaboration Loop, featuring Canopy Walks, connects academic blocks with informal study and social pods overlooking the treetops. Community Engagement SIT is a cornerstone of the Punggol Digital District, combining education and enterprise to bring higher education and workplaces closer to homes. The campus design involved public feedback through exhibitions at various stages of the district master planning. The district features public spaces such as transportation nodes, a hawker center, food courts, retail outlets, community clubs, and a waterfront market village, fostering community interaction and engagement. SIT's programs emphasize community-oriented projects, enabling students to engage with the public and provide services or research innovative solutions to meet community needs. #SustainableCampus #GreenArchitecture #EcoFriendlyDesign #BiophilicSpaces #CommunityEngagement #SIT #Singapore #SustainableDevelopment #EducationInnovation #UrbanPlanning Kee Chaing (KC) Chua https://lnkd.in/gXrJiGE4 https://lnkd.in/g43bEQAK

🏢 𝐒𝐏𝟑: 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲-𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐄𝐒 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 Advancing circular approaches in the built environment is key to achieving climate neutrality in Positive Clean Energy Districts (#PCEDs). Here are the main takeaways: • #CircularStrategies: Cities are implementing circularity at different stages—from reusing materials in existing buildings to repurposing demolition materials in new projects. • #SustainabilityFirst: Circular practices should begin at the design stage to refuse unsuitable materials and reduce raw resource use, ensuring that recycling is a last resort. • #ProcurementInnovation: Green public procurement plays a crucial role in scaling circular approaches, with cities like #Porto already implementing recycled material requirements. By focusing on circular strategies from the start, cities can significantly reduce their environmental impact while improving the sustainability of their buildings. Technopolis’ sustainable season’s greetings 👋 The foundation for our sustainability is to enable our customers to be sustainable, and we continuously taking steps to develop our performance. 🤝🏼 In 2024, we successfully continued to improve our sustainability performance in many areas: we reduced carbon emissions, improved recycling rates, and updated our human rights commitments. Here are some highlights of our sustainability development this year: 🔹 All our Business Units and personnel across four countries actively participated in energy efficiency initiatives. 🔹 In Oulu we increased our recycling rate, diverting thousands of tons of materials to recycling instead of incineration. 🔹 Our Hermia campus in Tampere earned new LEED certifications, showcasing high-level environmental performance. 🔹 We assessed the environmental impacts of concept materials and took carbon footprint calculation into account in furniture procurement. 🔹 At our Kista campus in Stockholm, we opened a new gym that supports the wellbeing of our customers. 🔹 We added more detailed information about our sustainability data on our website. These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without our strong commitment to sustainability and the valuable work and support of our partners. 🤜🏼🤛🏼 Detailed numbers and figures about these and other sustainability achievements will be presented in our ESG report for the year, which will be published in the spring. You can read more about our sustainability work on our website: https://lnkd.in/drygGyZH #technopolis #sustainability #2024recap

In order to reach impact, beyond projects - scaling is a vital mechanism. This is of strategic importance both for Viable Cities and for Driving Urban Transitions Partnership What’s your take on this?
A Working Lab is the national concept from Akademiska Hus for coworking, labs and flexible meeting spaces. In our previous newsletter we asked them: 🌍How do you work with sustainability? – An important part for A Working Lab is working with sustainability in focus. We emphasize reuse of lab equipment by inspecting and repurposing high-quality used items so that the startup community can use them. This circular approach extends the life of equipment, not only supporting new companies cutting costs but also benefiting the planet” says Armando Cázares-Körner, Lab Manager at A Working Lab. If you wish that Stockholm Science City spreads the word on how your organisation works with sustainability, email us on info@ssci.se! 🔸 Read the entire newsletter ➡ https://lnkd.in/d-8ArbCR 🔸 Our next newsletter is sent out by the end of June.
