Congratulations to Dr. Robert A. Kloner, Chief Science Officer and Scientific Director of Cardiovascular Research at HMRI, and his collaborators on the publication of "Princeton IV consensus guidelines: PDE5 inhibitors and cardiac health" in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.    25 years after #Viagra hit the market, the link between erectile dysfunction (ED) and heart health was examined by an interdisciplinary group that met at HMRI to readdress the cardiovascular workup of men with ED and known risk factors for #cardiovasculardisease. New observational data show an association between the use of PDE-5 inhibitors in men with ED and lower rates of major adverse cardiovascular events. Prospective trials are needed. 🩺 Are micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) harming our health? 🔬 Scientists are finding these tiny plastic particles in many parts of the human body and in people all over the world. This includes in our blood and during pregnancy in the womb. Ophthopedia Update:Hyperopic Reserve as an Indicator of Myopia Prevention by Atropine (LAMP2 Study): The Low-concentration Atropine for Myopia Prevention (LAMP2) study has shown that 0.05% atropine eye drops can delay the onset of myopia by 47% over 2 years.1 However, not all children are at equal risk of developing myopia, and therefore a targeted approach to minimize unnecessary treatment for those who will not develop myopia is needed. To address this research gap, we evaluate factors associated with the efficacy of low-concentration atropine in delaying myopia onset to identify whom will benefit from this prophylactic intervention. #Ophthalmology #ophthotwitter #eyecare

Responsible Dialogues: How we speak about a topic, how we portray it in images- frames our thought towards it. IFSO International Federation for The Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders has always been working towards a passionate advocacy for persons with obesity. The compassion towards the people living with the disease along with the maintenance of a scientific approach to obesity treatment has always been the motto. A new directory of acceptable terms in the obesity literature is a big leap in the direction. Along with the kind of imagery that the journal no longer finds acceptable- (no stereotypical/stigma: fast food, ill-fitting clothes, etc.).  Kudos! There is a curious thing about IgG4-related disease. Though it has many hallmarks of autoimmunity - its chronic nature and the presence of antigen-driven B- and T-cell responses, among others - there is a consistent, striking male predominance in the disease as well as important differences in organ involvement and disease severity. The answer to the question "Why?" may well provide important information about sex differences across other diseases, too. #igg4ward #igg4relateddisease #igg4 #igg4wardjam #autoimmunity
