IUCN databases provides only the names of threatened plant and animal species of the world. This is great for raising awareness. But to take action in the right direction, IUCN should provide the names of the plant species against each of the animal species, which provide their most favourite food. This data will help rating and ranking of the top biodiversity supporting plant species of the world and will help to raise ideal food forest in different parts of the world, for conservation of animal biodiversity.

❗New publication! 🌱 🐵 Led by Ryan Chisholm of the National University of Singapore, we calculate extinctions for plants and major animal groups over two centuries in Singapore. 🐵 🐟 🐦 Animal groups included mammals, birds, insects (butterflies, bees, phasmids), reptiles, fish, and crustaceans 💣 Our datasets used extensive local knowledge and novel statistical models that account for "dark extinctions" i.e. extinctions of undiscovered species. The estimated overall extinction rate was 37% (95% CI [31 – 42%]).  🎉 The good news is that our extinction estimates are a factor of two lower than previous such estimates. This means that only half of the species are likely to have gone extinct than previously thought. 🔥 The bad news is that particular groups such as large mammals, forest-dependent birds, orchids, and butterflies have the highest extinction rates and are highly vulnerable. 𝗪𝗲𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 🌎 "Nature may be considered as a silent stakeholder." (ESRS 1) With this idea in mind, and as the UN World Wildlife Day recently celebrated on 3rd March, it is worth celebrating the incredible diversity of life on our planet, while reflecting on the important role finance can play in preserving biodiversity. Our societies, economies and natural systems are now more interconnected than ever before with most economic sectors increasingly dependent on the health and stability of ecosystem services. Governments and regulators have increasingly focused on nature and biodiversity conservation, with initiatives such as the EU Nature Restoration Law and the UK's Biodiversity Net Gain scheme. A wide range of frameworks and tools have also been developed to assist organizations to navigate this landscape. This includes the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (“TNFD”) that published the final version of its recommended disclosures in September 2023. As such, the finance sector has the power to drive positive change by integrating ESG factors across investment decisions, and channelling funds towards projects that support conservation and biodiversity. Today, we are thrilled to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the #CevaWildlifeResearchFund, the first endowment fund dedicated to the health of #wildlife! 🐨 The endowment fund initiated by Ceva to finance research projects targeting #wildlifehealth has already contributed to the funding of 5️⃣ on-the-ground projects aimed at preserving the health of endangered wild animal species. Preserving the health of wild animals is not a viable economic activity, which makes it a field of animal health that is still under-invested.
