Our member, Gordon Foot MNM FNI, recently took the socials to highlight the work of the MMOA. Thank you for showcasing our work and noting the work of our voluntary committee, who aim to create a community and support marine mammal professionals across sectors and the globe! Not one to sit still, in September 2025 Gordon will canoe/paddle over 100km down the Zambezi River and then white water raft through the 25 Grade 5 rapids of the Batoka Gorge known as the ‘Terminator’ ending up at Victoria Falls. This trip is self-funded and he aims to donate funds to his two chosen charities; Sailors' Society' Society – www.sailors-society.org Safer Waves – www.saferwaves.org Take a look at his journey and fundraising page here: https://lnkd.in/etdG9wuR Thanks again Gordon and good luck on your endeavour! #giveback #seafarersupport #discriminationatsea #maritimewelfare
⚓Inspiring the Maritime⚓ This will be my journey for the next 11 months as my fundraiser ‘Zambezi River Challenge 2025’ gains momentum as I seek donations and attempt to enthral you with those people and organisations that have inspired me or are inspirations in themselves. So here I am going to highlight a special kind of association. This association is a very small community who have the seas and oceans at their heart but more importantly the mammals who call this water their home. They engage with all those within the Marine Mammal Observer - Passive Acoustic Monitoring - Protected Species Observers and research community. One of the awesome things that they do is to professionalise their community and raise the profile of what these people do both in a professional, academic, watchkeeping and sustainability way. They also support and empower early careers professionals through events by seeking support from successful well known and established institutes such as the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) - https://lnkd.in/e_GwDivE, who in turn run programs such as Sea Your Future - https://lnkd.in/eF_QEbHJ Supporting trainees, students, apprentices and cadets through their qualifications and for those starting out in their careers. These men and women of the MMOA are all volunteers providing their time and effort freely and giving back to their community - Why not join them, why not be part of something, invest in yourself and your planets future 😁⚓They may be small but they dare to dream big !! This endeavour is all about two fantastic maritime charities very dear to my heart. They are also two of the smaller charities and very much underfunded. 🍵 Just the price of a coffee or a cup of tea – All the multitude of pennies will soon add up and be put towards doing great things for seafarers. Sailors' Society and Safer Waves really do need our kind assistance, lets show them that we are all there for them. ⌚Please find the 1 minute to read the story by clicking on the JustGiving link here. Dream big and go for it ! 👇🏻🛶⚓ THANK YOU ! https://lnkd.in/eKTWaUVe Take a look at this MMO Association community, they may be small but they have a massive impact and maybe they can inspire you on your journey 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/ekFq4its
