Copenhagen Airport (CPH) witnessed a significant influx of travellers in November, with 1,957,215 passengers passing through its terminals.
As the same explains in a press release, the airport’s popularity as a hub increased, as evidenced by the impressive number of 350,000 passengers transferred during the same month, thus marking an increase of 60,000 compared to the same period last year.
The airport has also experienced a surge in transfer passengers, mainly from airports in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
In addition, in the first eleven months of this year, the volume of transfer passengers at Copenhagen Airport saw a total 40 per cent increase compared to the previous year. According to the airport, this translates to over 4.4 million transfer journeys, with the majority attributed to passengers flying with SAS.
The rise in the number of transfer passengers at Copenhagen Airport is primarily attributed to the increasing appeal of routes connecting Copenhagen to the United States and Canada. The airport’s winter program features a robust representation of North American destinations, boasting nine routes spanning eight cities in the USA and Canada.
The routes to the USA and Canada are performing extremely well. In fact, we have now more routes than we did in 2019, and we are seeing many passengers from Sweden and Norway using Copenhagen as the starting point for their journey to the USA. The same goes for traffic coming the other way.
Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airports A/S Peter Krogsgaard,
CPH also pointed out that considering the festive season approaches, December is a bustling period for those gearing up for Christmas. London remains a top favourite, with up to 21 daily departures from Copenhagen offering many flight options.
According to Krogsgaard, London is consistently the most sought-after destination from Copenhagen throughout the year, and this trend intensifies in December, as many choose to indulge in a weekend getaway or spend a few days immersed in the city’s unique atmosphere.
Moreover, December and January stand out as quieter months at Copenhagen Airport. However, the days leading up to the holidays are expected to be vibrant. Krogsgaard further noted that the peak day of the Christmas season will be Friday, December 22, with over 80,000 passengers traversing Copenhagen Airport. At the same time, December 24 and 25 are foreseen as the calmest days, with an estimated 35,000 passengers passing through the airport.
