Interns have huge value... ...if you let them! As an elder millennial, I only ever heard of interns fetching coffee and making copies whilst growing up, and that's the impression I think most people of similar age had of internships. Times have definitely changed and thank goodness for that! Yesterday we had our third annual Intern Showcase where several of our amazing interns spoke about the impactful projects they have been working on this summer. These are projects that will really benefit our business and I'm just loving what internships can be when you have a well-structured program that looks to benefit both interns AND the company. Its also important to me that they are given an opportunity to not only share their work, but to be able to build their presentation skills to a wide audience of senior leadership - this is why I and my virtual coffee hour co-chair launched this showcase three years ago. We wanted to make sure that our incredible interns felt supported and engaged with the rest of their fellow employees, making it a valuable summer for everyone. Here are a few things I have learned throughout my internship!

Sharing my thoughts below, and would love to hear yours! --- In my first job, a skill I learned that still serves me today is... the value of adaptability. Early in my career, interning with eSports & convention marketing campaigns, I quickly realized that no event or project ever goes exactly as planned. Whether it was resolving unexpected issues like a tardy vendor or finding creative solutions on the fly, expecting the unexpected made all the difference. The fast-paced environment and long hours of the event world have taught me that success often times comes from anticipating needs and taking decisive action quickly. How you react to the curveballs thrown your way is a critical aspect of quality success and leadership. These lessons in adaptability and proactive problem-solving have not only shaped my professional journey but also enriched my personal life. Despite all our planning, we never 100% know what’s coming next - and that unpredictability is what makes the journey exciting! It’s officially intern season! Check out these six helpful tips for creating a valuable internship program at your organization: 1. Encourage employees to participate in the intern program as supervisors. 2. Match the right interns with each open role! 3. Host two thorough orientations – one for your supervisors and one for your new interns. 4. Have a clear outline of what your interns will gain during their program. 5.
