How would you rate you stamping on a scale of 1-10? And how relieved were you when one of the old guard showed you old trick with the X stamp and back of your ball-pein to cover your first mistake? When I started my apprenticeship my firm had just began manufacturing the A380 wing jigs for Airbus in Broughton so I spent a hell of a lot of time stamping up hundreds and hundreds of components. I'd definitely give myself a solid 9/10. (would be 10 but I used masking tape rather than pencil lines/freehand) #Engineering #DCSEngineering #EngineeringApprenticeship

As an industry it’s time for the automotive sector, its work providers, and the supply chain to take positive action to stem a real decline in repair capability. #upskill #apprenticeships #skillsdevelopment AutoRaise NBRA / VBRA Thatcham Research working to build the bodyshop talent hub to collaboratively create that positive action.
Repairing the skills gap Our colleagues at Allianz are echoing a concern shared by many in the sector today; that without urgent action to prioritise repair skills we risk failing to realise the wide-ranging benefits of new vehicle technologies – from electrification to ADAS and automation. As their article states, it is vital that technology-focused skillsets are developed, to not only ensure that modern vehicles can be repaired safely and efficiently, but also to open up more career opportunities in the sector. For our part, we are working closely with our partners to help them keep pace with rapidly evolving vehicle technology, focusing our efforts on raising awareness of the challenge this week at #UKGBE, alongside AutoRaise and NBRA / VBRA, while readying ourselves to do more such as lobbying the incoming Government to unlock unspent apprenticeship levy cash and uplift funding for individual apprentices. Aircraft Systems Engineering (MBSE), Certification, Airworthiness, Reliability & Safety, RCM ILS, Educator.
I am an instructor requested for A&P certificate holders which we produce very little of because of attrition and the lengthy curriculum set by authority. A suggestion is for 145,135,121 organizations to partner with local secondary and A&P school to have apprenticeship route to obtain A&P certificate solution short term. More important is for operators/stakeholders participate with the local ARAC (Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee) to plan for an adequate transition to simplify 147 requirements to facilitate a more apprenticeship base type of certification process. This is already a proven method in the EU. Understandably not free of barriers brought by cultural and languistic variations of the member nations. The US, a leader in industry grow at average of about 4% may seem insignificant. But this number translates into unrealistic demands for pilots and maintenance staff which is unsustainable. Pilotless flight is unviable as the FAA struggles with airspace issues with drone and UAMs together with modernization efforts. Unfortunately, 14 CFR 147 is neglected as it seems perception that is has no consequential risk directing A&P schools to further irrelevance.

🚀 Powering the Future of Engineering with Apprentice Wednesday! 🛫 Our National Apprenticeship Week journey continues across Impellam Group, spotlighting Carbon60 today. Our focus is driving skills and cultivating the engineering leaders of tomorrow. Did you know - Boeing forecasts a need for 60,000 new maintenance technicians globally in the next 20 years – that's 30,000 annually! With Europe's fleet size representing 25% of the world's active fleet, approximately 7,500 new technicians are required each year. And guess what - The UK ranks 5th in Europe for passenger numbers, meaning a significant portion of those 7,500 technicians are needed right here. However, current talent pipelines fall short of these numbers, underscoring the importance of engaging and influencing the next generation of aviation talent and leveraging apprenticeship routes to bolster skills development in this critical sector. At Carbon60 we're not just shaping careers; we're shaping the future of engineering. #NAW2024

Sometimes we are fortunate enough to be able to look back on a momentous career event that happened 40 years ago (you really do need to be over 40 for this to happen and I hope you get there) Last Thursday, I was very fortunate to be able to reflect on such an event with 19 other ex-apprentices who shared that experience The last time we were all on that parade ground together was 11 April 1984, as we graduated from our 3-year RAF Halton apprenticeship as Aircraft Engineering Technicians (Airframes and Propulsion) An interesting and informative tour of Halton House took us back to Trenchard's vision and realisation of apprentices on the hill, and visits to Kermode Hall and the Trenchard Museum reminded us of the technical education and training we received (including meeting one of our instructors who is now a volunteer in the museum) The camaraderie and esprit de corps were instantaneous on being reunited and the humorous banter of events then and since had us laughing late into the night Of course, we remembered absent friends who were not so fortunate to have the opportunity to reflect with us What was absolutely clear, as we rekindled friendship and caught up on the intervening period, was that we had not been recruited as a 'type' nor converted into 'clones' yet we all shared very similar views on the 'ex-Brat' product Even though we had served differing times in different postings, and had gone on to have a widely varied range of subsequent careers and life experiences, there was the common theme of a foundation in integrity, accountability, technical competence, confidence, curiosity, quality focus and systems thinking that enabled us to achieve, both in and out of the Royal Air Force (RAF) There are no apprentices on the hill anymore and not everyone understands what has been lost ....... Rose-tinted spectacles? Probably A little pride? Definitely However, for what it is worth from an "old f4rt" who went through it, the RAF Halton Apprenticeship was a start to an engineering career that could not be replicated and has not been replaced intraresilience Limited - making #competence central to #leadership #quality and #customerservice

“Get out of your comfort zone, it’s where I’ve done most of my learning.” “You’re only as strong as your team – make sure you learn about each other.” “It’s been tough, but it’s given everyone a chance to get their ideas out.” “It’s made me realise it’s ok to not know something and it’s ok to ask questions and ask for help.” Just some of the insights shared during the final presentations of Carrs Engineering Group apprentices after completing their programme at our Eskdale centre. These reflections are an example of how learning through adventure pushes boundaries, fosters resilience and builds teamwork. It's a space where failure is embraced as part of the learning process, empowering apprentices to adapt and grow. These skills are not only applicable to work but also to life. As they embark on their career journeys, apprentices leave Outward Bound with newfound confidence, knowing they possess the strength and skills to tackle any challenge that comes their way. #NAW2024 Bendalls Engineering, NW Total Engineered Solutions, Chirton Engineering, Stolle Machinery Company LLC
