Marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, HRH The Duke of Gloucester unveiled a new stained glass window at the RAF Club in London on Sunday. 100 years ago this week, the UK Government signed the charter for the formation of the Auxiliary Air Force, the “Royal” prefix being added by King George VI after WWII in recognition of the part played by Reserve Squadrons in the war. The window is the result of a competition run earlier this year, which invited stained glass window makers to submit design ideas. Assessed “blind” by a committee, the winning design turned out to have been the work of a serving member of the RAF – AS1 Kenny, who's a RAF cartographer in his day job and started learning stained glass window making as a hobby. His design features references to the activities of reservists in the 1920s and those serving today, telling a story of the development of the RAuxAF. The window will be a permanent commemoration of RAuxAF 100. More on this event 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e3QFD7im

Over 15 months, British aircraft carried over half a million tons of vital supplies to the blockaded city of West Berlin.
