For military caregiving families, life is often full and fast-paced. Even when there’s so much to do, taking the time for self-reflection can help ground you in the present. Try the I Notice, I Feel, I Can strategy together with children to help the whole family manage feelings big and small. 🧡 Step 1: I Notice… Pause to notice how your body feels. Step 2: I Feel … Name the emotion using a “feelings word.” Step 3: I Can … Choose something to help you manage the feeling. Remember to be gentle with yourself as you learn and grow in emotional awareness. Because You Care So Much... You may not know this is an official holiday, but it recently was National Caregiver Appreciation Day. There are 65 million caregivers in the U.S. alone and whether you are a caregiver yourself, you have a loved one who is a caregiver, or you have a loved one taken care of by a caregiver, we want to celebrate and appreciate you. You and caregivers deserve it. As a caregiver with so many people counting on you, you know how important it is to get your estate plan set up right or reviewed if it has been a while since you first set up your plan. Did you know that unless your estate plan is set up properly and kept up to date it could cost your family as much as it costs you to buy a new car (!!) or that your children could end up in child protective services even if you have named guardians in your Will? In honor and appreciation of your caregiving, we have a special “We Appreciate Your Care” promotion. If you come in for your Life & Legacy Planning Session with us this month, we will waive our normal $750 planning session fee – so long as you do your homework ahead of time and show up for your planning session. That is how we reward you for doing what you know you need to do anyway. We see that as a win-win. To claim this offer, please schedule today >>> https://lnkd.in/gc56AVEh #compasslegalplanning #compasslegalplanningOK #estateplanning #willsandtrusts #OKestateplanningattorney #powerofattorney #healthcaredirectives #kidsprotectionplan #assetprotection #buildyourlegacy #familylegacy #outdooradventure #OKmom #OKdad #OKveterans #OKmilitary #guidingfamiliesforward

This article does a great job, examining some of the hurdles military families encounter relating to childcare. It is imperative that this be one of the areas that gets addressed to close the gap for military, spouse, unemployment and unemployment.
It is out! The year-long effort I pushed out in Norfolk, VA officially has results. This was a heavy lift. While I had the support of the local community, the funding for this relied entirely on my blood, sweat, and tears. It was hard and absolutely worth it. Thank you to everyone who has helped Operation Child Care and The Operation Child Care Project with their time, expertise, and passion. This is the first set of data that reaffirms what military families have been saying for years: we are being left behind. We need transparency, accountability, and a seat at the table. May 10th is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Today we honor the incredible strength of our military spouses and their families! Despite facing frequent relocations and constant adjustments, they courageously stand by their loved ones, holding their families together with unwavering determination. The mental load they carry is immense, yet sadly often unnoticed. Did you know the unemployment rate among military spouses is five times the national average (while also being some of the most highly educated and skilled professionals out there)? This staggering statistic highlights the challenges they face in pursuing their own careers while supporting their families' needs. Affordable childcare remains a critical need for many military families, impacting their ability to maintain stability and pursue their professional aspirations. Let's come together to celebrate and support each other on this journey. What has been your experience as a military spouse? We invite you to share your personal stories and experiences in the comments below. The Operation Child Care Project is here to help and we thank you for your service! Even though the childcare landscape is different in Canada, the childcare journey greatly shapes our back to work journeys. At Balanced Good we support parental leaves in both Canada and the US, and even though our services can help smooth the back to work transition, the childcare gap can significantly alter and delay this transition. #maternityleave #parentalleave #backtowork #childcare #nonprofitsector
“Child care is the only thing that has made me consider leaving military service...the logistics and constant stress that come from child care is truly the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with.” The child care crisis is pushing military families to the brink. While so many families in the U.S. face months-long wait lists and closed child care centers, the challenges facing military families — who frequently move on short notice and are stationed in areas with few child care options — are magnified. Some families are so stressed by our broken child care system they are choosing not to re-enlist! Our friends at Blue Star Families found that #childcare was among the top quality-of-life concerns listed by active-duty service members and 1 in 3 of active-duty military spouses said they can’t find the child care needed in order to work — this is unacceptable. Military families deserve answers from our leaders about their plans to address the child care crisis. Join us in calling on CNN to ask the candidates about child care at the June 27th presidential debate — sign the petition here: https://lnkd.in/eSs8HFBt Read the full piece from Shannon Pettypiece in NBC News: https://lnkd.in/e-6ayEDD

Did you know that your VA Disability compensation has a survivor benefit? 😮 It's true! 😃 The Department of Veterans Affairs provides a tax-free monetary benefit for qualified survivors called Dependency Indemnity Compensation...commonly referred to as VA DIC. In order to qualify for the benefit, the following must be true: ✅ You are an eligible spouse, child, or parent of the veteran. AND ✅ The veteran died while on active duty, during active-duty training, inactive-duty training, or as the result of a service-connected illness or injury. ***For eligibility requirements, click this link 👉 https://lnkd.in/ddCqNa_j Surviving spouses can receive (monthly): Base payment of 💲1️⃣,6️⃣1️⃣2️⃣.7️⃣5️⃣ Aid & Attendance (for disabilities) of 💲3️⃣9️⃣9️⃣.5️⃣4️⃣ Transitional Benefit for first two years after veteran's death 💲3️⃣4️⃣2️⃣.0️⃣0️⃣ Each child under the age of 18 merits and additional 💲3️⃣9️⃣9️⃣.5️⃣4️⃣ ***Children and Parent rates are a little more complicated*** For Child rates, click this link 👉 https://lnkd.in/de2RYsXh For Parent rates, click this link 👉 https://lnkd.in/dVvT9w3j One thing they finally got right as a part of the NDAA for 2023 was that they removed the SBP-DIC offset, which reduced the SBP benefit if the eligible survivors were receiving both. 🙌 Main point here is that you should be knowledgeable of these types of benefits, ESPECIALLY if you're doing any Financial or Estate Planning. 👊 It's something we discuss a lot in the Military Money Mistakes course and coaching program. 🤔 👉 Follow me for more insights into VA Disability, SBP, VGLI, TSP, and Military Transition. Coming up: The Operation Child Care Project is set to release findings and insights from our year-long pilot program in Norfolk, Virginia. As we share our journey and recommendations, there's one crucial message we urge you to remember: the importance of accountability. Military families face unique challenges, including the overwhelming abundance of resources that, too often, are hindered by hidden waitlists, barriers, and bureaucratic red tape. Clearly, if a resource isn't truly accessible, it shouldn't be on the table. Today we celebrate the historical milestone of Juneteenth, marking the emancipation of enslaved black Americans in the United States. It was on June 19, 1865, that Union Army General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived to formally inform the enslaved Black and African American people of Galveston, Texas that the Emancipation Proclamation had freed them. This day holds immense significance as a symbol of liberation and the ongoing fight for equality. We at Operation Child Care Project understand the importance of supporting our military community, which is why we strive to bridge the gap between the demand and availability of child care services through data-driven decision-making, authentic storytelling, and advocacy. On this Juneteenth, we celebrate the strength of our military families and recognize the historical significance of this day in the fight for freedom and equality. Together, let's continue to support one another and build a brighter future for all.
