Sharjeel Memon’s directive to take action against transporters charging extra fare from passengers Karachi: On the instructions of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the campaign against transporters charging extra fare will begin on Monday, June 10. A letter has been sent to Commissioners, DIGs and Deputy Commissioners for action. The Transport Department has issued instructions for taking action against those who collect extra fare on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha and in this regard a letter has been sent to the IG Sindh, all Commissioners, DIGs, DCs on behalf of the Transport Department. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the Sindh government is committed to provide all kinds of relief to the people, those who disturb the passengers will not be forgiven and the transporters who increase the fixed fares and arbitrarily will not be forgiven. Strict action will be taken against the operators. He said that the aim of the campaign is to provide relief to the people and prevent any unnecessary financial pressure on the passengers. Any payment , you wish to pay, make bank transfer to the sellers account only not with the clearing agent. If your seller or seller rep is asking you to pay the charges for COO, Insurance, frieght charges etc are scams.

The Sindh government has decided to digitise and automate the transport department and commercial vehicle sectors. Officials announced on Thursday that the digitisation of the department's subsidiaries, including SMTA, PTA, RTA, and Trans Karachi, has already commenced. A meeting was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Sharjeel Inam Memon. During the meeting, Memon received a briefing on the digitisation and automation efforts. He stated that with the implementation of this system, PTAs will be connected under a unified software system, facilitating inter-provincial route permits and streamlining the entire process. The minister highlighted that the system for issuing and renewing route permits is being made online. This digitisation will enable transporters to apply for and renew route permits online, making the process of obtaining route permits, fitness certificates, and body makers’ permits more efficient and convenient. Additionally, Memon announced the establishment of a public complaint centre, with all information being collected in the secretariat. Yesterday, I had the coincidence of going to Rawalpindi Railway Station after many years to pick up my cargo consignment which was coming from Karachi through the dryport. Since the consignment was quite large, I had booked a truck for loading in advance and arrived there a little early. As we have always heard about Pakistan Railways that they never arrive on time, the same happened to me. I had to wait for 3 hours there. So, I decided to survey the station and see if there have been any changes in the conditions over the years. But when I saw the conditions there and compared them with train services in other countries, I felt very sorry. Despite having such a large railway system in Pakistan, we are far behind in comparison to railway systems in the world. Trains are always fully occupied and generate good revenue, yet efforts to improve this department and train services are not made. And now, due to rising inflation, 50% of the people who used to travel by air are now traveling by train. I would request the Government of Pakistan to pay attention to the railway system and bring it up to international standards to generate good revenue and make passengers feel proud to travel on their country’s train services. Because I saw an educated passenger sitting on the platform talking on the phone, telling someone that he will reach Karachi by tomorrow’s flight, even though he was waiting for the train. He felt embarrassed to tell anyone that he was traveling by train. This can only end when we make our railway system very good according to international standards.
