We are pleased to welcome five interns from the 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns initiative. Our holistic six-week enrichment program prepares our interns for corporate life, regardless of their parent's occupation and class background. Ademide Agunsoye, Chris Nnaji, Hafsa Usman, and Samuel Shipp joined us at the start of last week and have experienced different practice areas, including our Wealth and Asset Management team, Corporate Functions, HR, and Digital Marketing. Firdaws Ariya has also returned to us after completing an internship in 2023 and is working with our legal counsel. We hope we give them some valuable knowledge to help them with their future studies and ambitions and the chance to start building their own professional networks. Black and disabled people often face barriers to entry when embarking on their careers. Realising potential is our core mission at Sheffield Haworth, and in the run-up to Social Mobility Day tomorrow, we wanted to showcase our commitment to enabling inclusive environments where the best and the brightest realise their potential. Special thanks to all our interns for being part of the team!! We are all looking forward to seeing you all develop over the next 5 weeks.

When you get to work with your own daughter... Sure, I've seen my daughter Chase Carpenter in action. I've seen how her smile and positive energy can draw people in. I've watched her rally groups of young women, whether it's for pure fun and community development, or it's for a purpose-driven event, meant to move the needle. She's an organized, efficient, and magnetic leader. So you may imagine my pride getting to work alongside her this past summer at The Lola. The Lola is a vibrant, women's community space where I've been co-working for the past year and a half. I've also contributed some work to The LOLA team, helping Dana Xavier Dojnik with project management processes and content marketing; starting and co-leading a weekly accountability group with Melissa Uppelschoten, now led by superstar Qiana Avery, SHRM-CP; and co-facilitating the monthly, in-person Founders & Freelancers group with the incomparable energy-shifter Kafi London. In short, being part of The LOLA community has been my jam. When The LOLA accepted Chase as an intern last spring, I knew she'd fit right in. She understood the assignment: to help support the powerful network of inclusive, female entrepreneurs and women in business who want to build a life and career in which we are constantly growing, thriving and succeeding. It's exciting to see young women realize and embrace their own power. It makes me wish I knew what they already know when I was in my 20s! But it was a different time and we were ALL different people. :) I'm excited to keep my focus on what's ahead for all of us. Because women - young, mid-life and wise - will change the world. Established women in business and emerging female leaders: if you haven't felt it yet, lean in. And lean in HARD, because our time is NOW. #WomenInBusiness #FemaleLeadership #NextGenLeaders #MotherDaughterTeam #EmpowerWomen #WomenSupportingWomen #CommunityLeadership #FemaleEntrepreneurs #MentorshipMatters #TheLOLA #WomenWhoLead #CareerGrowth #InclusiveLeadership #YoungLeaders #WomenEmpowerment

Here is a article everyone needs to read!!
While it's widely reported that Kamala Harris has had a 91.5% turnover rate in staff as Vice President, what the corporate media won't tell you is how she actually treats those who work for her. In 2019, a father whose son interned for Harris when she was attorney general of California wrote the article below which details how his son was treated. Some of the lowlights: 1) She instructed her entire staff to stand every morning as she entered the office and say, “Good Morning General.” 2) His son was given instructions to never address Harris nor look her in the eye as that privilege was only allowed to senior staff members. 3) She used profanity constantly in her berating of staff and others. The staff was in complete fear of her. 4) Never once during the internship did Harris introduce herself to his son and staff was too intimidated by her to introduce him. Please share this with everyone -- the American public needs to know this.

Meet Murphy Alum, Quinnyata Bellows from the North Shore Country Day School Class of 2015. During her time at DMSF, Quinnyata participated in Affinity Groups and held a Walgreens Corporate Internship. Today, she works as a freelance producer and costume manager. Let’s hear what advice she has to share! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛I learned that staying connected with my community and creating connections that last a life time can benefit me more than any fleeting moments. The people I have met through Daniel Murphy have influenced me in a number of ways. So many doors have opened for me that I never thought I would have access to because of volunteers and staff that have reached out to me during and after my scholarship program. It would be an understatement to say that I have gained a number of mentors that have paved a way for someone like me to flourish in the arts and make a career out of something that was just my passion and curiosity at the time. 💙Why was receiving a good education so important to you? 💛The older I get the more impactful my education history has been for me. With every decision I make, the skills and ability to navigate through society were just basic lessons taught to me through programming and courses dedicated to ensuring my success in the past. I may not have fully understood the weight of an amazing education in my teenage years but seeing how things could have been more troubling for me now makes me all the more grateful for the opportunities I had. This ever changing appreciation for my education is what makes it so important. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛Take advantage of everything. This seems like a simple task but I think at a young age it’s easy to look past the small details but every thing that comes your way is a potential door that can opened and explored. Whether that is introducing yourself to someone new or being the first to volunteer, there is absolutely nothing unavailable to you unless you believe it. Thank you for being an inspiration, Quinnyata! #35YearsOfMurphyScholars #AlumniThen&Now #HighSchoolScholarship #EducationAccess

CEO @ The Savoy Group, LLC | Passionate Organizational Development Professional inspiring leaders and teams to activate empathy and compassion at work.
Thank you to all of the employers and government organizations hosting summer interns, program participants, and mentees. We know that you are serving as a mentor, role model, nurturer, parental figure in some cases, career counselor, and most importantly, a listener. As you support our youth and young adults this summer, know that they may reach out to you for support throughout the year. In some instances, you may be their only support within reach. Whether you believe it or not, what you represent and who you are (even when you are still developing) is more of a witness to greatness than you think. Know that you are a model of success, a model of courage, and a model of encouragement to those learning in the summer employment programming spaces. Keep walking with your head high and be unapologetically committed to supporting each of them. They deserve our best and to know when even we have to reset. Allow them to see the real side of work, how culture strengthens relationships, and how leaders grow when they support every part of the organization. Let them see you.

Black History and HBCU Talent! LISC is partnering with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) on an internship program that builds a diverse talent pipeline for CDFIs while offering paid professional experience to diverse undergraduate students of color. Learn more about the LISC HBCU Internship Program at https://lnkd.in/eZn3RTwG. View the link below to learn more about Sabrina Mohamed's internship experience!
Sabrina Mohamed, a senior at #HBCU Howard University, recently completed a 9-month paid internship with LISC, made possible by the support of the Citi Foundation. In this role, the political science major worked closely with LISC program experts to organize a small business development convening, conduct research on community violence intervention, and evaluate applicants for child care grants, among other projects. The work experience gave Mohamed a real taste of what it takes to make a positive impact on communities. “My favorite part was seeing how different local offices and communities had different approaches to similar issues. It really just emphasizes how important it is for us to support local initiatives.” Although her internship is over, Mohamed can still lean on LISC for support. She and other exiting HBCU interns now have access to an employment coach who can help fine-tune their resume writing, interviewing, and networking skills to find jobs in community development when they graduate. Now, that’s a great way to cultivate a diverse talent pipeline for our industry!
