With over 22,000 LinkedIn connections, I guess you're great at building networks. And that’s exactly what I love to do: connecting people, working together on sustainability, and inspiring behavioural change through collaboration. My absolute favourite part is involving young people in this journey. I attend every sustainability event I can, grab any stage with both hands, and often bring my daughter Bo Renée Stoevenbeld. In turn, she brings her university friends. It’s so much more fun when young people join in, and incredibly insightful to learn what drives their engagement in the green transition. Smart networking. You can bury yourself in books, but networking is just as crucial. Meeting the right people at the right time, presenting your ask, and accelerating the path to your goals—this is the essence of effective networking. And today, my daughter joined the Happy Times Magazine networking event with Maartje Bregman and Tessel Zandstra—two young adults, for whom I proudly serve as an ambassador, who already demonstrate a deep understanding of the power of this invaluable life skill. It’s effective and fun! Do you have a question about your sustainable transition model? Or are you unsure how to begin making positive changes in your own behavior? Let me know! I’ll do my best to connect your question with the right knowledge, network partner, inspiration, insights, and actionable steps.

It’s quite refreshing to witness how the term ‘sustainable’ has evolved from just another corporate buzzword—dutifully inserted into every mission statement—into something that is actually being put into hands-on practices across different industries. For example, last year, I attended an event for event managers at Reading Borough Council (thanks, Lucy Daniels, for the invite), where organisers explored ways to implement sustainable practices and greener policies. Then, at Windsor College, Paul Ducker from New Directions shared insights into how sustainability can be approached in the film industry. And finally yesterday, at Apexplaza we had the chance to see how local businesses and Reading BID (Business Improvement District) operate in a more eco-friendly way and what everyday practices they adopt. Many thanks to Anchenar Quinto for organising it and bringing together such fantastic speakers. The mix of an educational element and networking was just perfect, looking forward to the next event. To sum up, as our excellent presenter Andy Briggs pointed out, it all boils down to one simple yet profound thought: the habits (or practices) we form today will shape our future—or, more accurately, the future of our children, who will be hanging around this planet longer than us. And these events serve as a great reminder to take a step back and apply the helicopter view—because even the smallest incremental step in the right direction could bring us closer to elusive goal of a better future.

Networking has mysterious ways... 🔮 I recently wrote a blog post about the benefits of plants in the office. Aside from the obvious benefits, connecting with nature in our daily lives is important! 👀 There's even a name for our love affair with plants. It's called 'biophilia', or "a desire or tendency to commune with nature". I wanted to learn much more about this, but everyday life got in the way; it got pushed to the back of my mind. Yesterday, I shared an article by Matthew Grocoff, Esq., LEED-GA, LFA about Veridian at County Farm, a compact neighbourhood model of sustainability and affordability in Ann Arbor, Michigan. And when I asked him about similar projects in Europe, he put me in touch with Carlo Battisti. To make a long story short, Carlo is the president of Living Future Europe, organising a Biophilia Summit 2024 on 6 June. And so my story comes full circle 🧩 🌱 The Biophilia Summit is an "innovative one-day event focused on bringing together the latest research, disciplines and best practices on biophilic issues, with the aim of creating conversations and advancing awareness and practice". I feel like Alice in Wonderland! Never expected such a broad spectrum of topics to learn about… Some of the topics I'm most looking forward to are agriculture, architecture, regenerative design and psychology. I'll share a link in the comments; check out their programme.

For as much as I live stream my thoughts on LinkedIn, I don't always connect these through lines to my businesses, whoops! I'd love to include you in my email communications, if you have interest in keeping up with PURPOSE Sustainability Strategy IRL, as we begin to bring more offerings to the world. I have a dream of combining the values of PURPOSE and THE BLUEPRINT WITHIN to create community + events around the concept that when we heal our inner landscapes, we more effectively heal (and feel) our outer environments. Some of my most transcendental human experiences have been absolute and utter heartbreak. When you feel your heart breaking, you know you're truly alive. I believe we must feel to heal - but these events will also be done through a lens of PLAY + JOY, because aligning yourself with the rhythms of the living (and energies of the unseen) world requires plenty of laughter, too. Please SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE to sign up and join me!

Will this week be the week you join the People Planet Pint network? From an idea created by Adam Bastock of Small99 to bring together those working in sustainability and its various spin off subjects, the network now hosts events in 120 cities across 10 countries. This week I will be hosting in Aberdeen, are you attending? Come along to Aberdeen's own B-Corp cocktail bar - ShapeShifters Aberdeen for a friendly event simply designed to connect, everyone is welcome as every job is a climate job and creating a sustainable future requires connected communities. The PPP events are sponsored by Krystal an award-winning, 100% renewably powered web host, with datacentres in the UK, US, & Europe. Krystal are climate positive, and their approach centres on value, quality and transparency.
