Simple Carbon Reduction plans for micro and small businesses.

About us

Small 99 empowers the 99% of micro businesses in the UK with carbon reduction plans. If you’re thinking “Where do I start?“ you’re in the right place. Small businesses are a huge section of the economy which often gets overlooked by those offering resources and information. Hence the name Small99 - 99% of our economy is a small business. Solo business owners are famously poor on time, and as such Small99 seeks to cut out the noise and give you no-nonsense resources that let you take action in your business today to reduce your carbon footprint. Small99 takes complex decisions and makes them simple for small business owners. This isn’t about greenwashing, Press Releases or feel good stories. It’s about the practical, sometimes boring changes you can make to your business that will make an effective change.

On Wednesday night, we hosted the first Pitch Play Pint (football followed by the pub) in Camden in collaboration with carbon reduction agency, Small99. Turns out that getting people together for some five a side is a great ice breaker, and made for some relaxed conversations over a Murphy’s (Guinness shortage still on) about sport, planet, eco jargon and the chances of Forest doing a Leicester to win the league. Big thanks to those of you that braved the cold, and for a great evening. #football #sustainability #community

Manchester does it again... 1️⃣ Day one of the The Better Business Network Summit at The Manchester Metropolitan University, and what an inspiring and thought-provoking experience it has been! 🤔 The biggest challenge! Planning the day, with so many insightful talks, workshops, catalyst sessions, and the odd panel, it’s nearly impossible to choose. 💪 One standout session was hosted by Impact Reporting ,diving into the complex but fascinating topic of social value measurement. How do we quantify the good that companies do? It turns out, it starts with “passionate nerds” (friendly term used during the session!). These are the experts who deeply understand economics, fiscal measures, and well-being, all three are essential foundations for any meaningful measurement. Expertly delivered by Catherine Manning & Matt Haworth, and crafted in a way so everyone can take away their own actions. 🃏 Another highlight was an interactive session led by the team at Small99 and Dr Helen Rodgers MEng PhD, who brought sustainability to life through a clever and engaging game. It was a brilliant way to connect the pillars of sustainability and carbon reduction with tangible business objectives, blending fun and teamwork. Their concept is something I’ll definitely be using in the future for stakeholders. 🍌 🐳 And how many days can you say you’ve valued a banana, learned that the value of a whale is $2 million, and gained a clear understanding of how and why we can value business actions, but with a clear need to be careful how we do it. 🔊 A big shoutout to the organising team at the The Better Business Network for an exceptional event, and special recognition to 👩🏻💻Hannah Cox for staying cool under pressure (even during a fire alarm evacuation!) and ensuring the day ran seamlessly. Jealous of those attending day two. #BBS25 #FUTUREPROOF

Huge thank you to Adam Bastock and team from Small99 for producing this very informative card game! It went down a real treat this Christmas and had us discussing carbon emissions for ages! Some of the comparisons were really shocking! Any chance you'll be bringing out add on packs of cards? Think we may have exhausted this set already! Michelle Miles 💚 Sustainable Wedding Alliance | B Corp™ I'll be bringing this along to the Ambassador area meet ups for sure! Maybe we should get Adam Bastock to do a wedding card pack made 😍

Drive Growth, engage your team and become the most sustainable business | Founder of Small99 + People, Planet, Pint | 1 Million Small Businesses towards Net Zero By 2030

That's a wrap! 2024 has been a busy year for us, with new products, new events and even more pints. For me, it's been a year of train and training, with thousands of miles covered getting businesses started on their journey. From webinars to workshops, we've been on the ground talking to business owners to ensure they know the climate risk that's coming. It's been a fantastic year and I feel like 2025 is when we'll really be making our bigger impact. However, I am looking forward to some downtime and not being on a train. I've spent the equivalent of 7 full days on a train this year. We've got 12 months to meet 950,000 businesses with some exciting plans for how we'll meet this. See you all on the other side!

Helping businesses and live events increase their positive impact on people and planet

I'm doing something a little different this week! The response to Pioneer of the Year—our annual celebration of the extraordinary individuals in The Better Business Network —has been absolutely overwhelming. Read to the end to find out about amazing opportunity the Kindness Project is sharing with us too... 🚀 FIVE WEEKS TILL THE BETTER BUSINESS SUMMIT 🚀 This year, James Dady and I invited BBN members to nominate themselves or others, and our fantastic panel of judges Russ Avery (Avery & Brown | B Corp™), Mike Smith (Open Media UK) and Elle Chartres (Ad Net Zero) carefully selected nominees who are making the biggest impact in their industry, sector, or community. The five shortlisted pioneers will each have just five minutes to share their inspiring stories with the audience at the Better Business Summit this January. The winner, decided by audience vote, will be crowned “Pioneer of the Year" and will be celebrated on billboards around the country! And the shortlist is... 🎉 Simon Hall from Airway Medical Ltd 🎉 Michelle Miles 💚Founder of Sustainable Wedding Alliance | B Corp™ 🎉 Isabel Mack, Founder at Party Kit Network CIC 🎉 Catherine Manning Founder of Measure Up 🎉 And Re-Action Collective, Heather Davies & Gavin Fernie-Jones one of you will have to take the mantel here... LASTLY... The Kindness Project has kindly donated FIVE free tickets to this year’s Better Business Summit! We strive to keep ticket prices as accessible as possible, but we know it can still be a challenge for some. If you’ve been following along and would love to attend but finances have been a barrier, please reach out to me directly at hannah@betternotstop.com. P.S. Don’t forget—there are also Pay What You Can tickets available, and BBN members get £100 off all ticket types! P.P.S Who remembers this moment from last year 🤣
