Can you see your goals, but you can’t get to them? Is leadering not all you thought it would be? I will help you get over the hump and achieve the things you've envisioned, without shame or blame.

This is for my friends who do nonprofit work, and it's based on a call I got this week, and many other calls I've received for the last nearly 16 years as a foster/adoptive and now kinship parent. 1. Please ensure your volunteers are educated/trained at least as well as the people they're charged with supporting/evaluating. 2. Bias is a real thing, and we all have it, whether that be bias against or for people in certain socioeconomic groups, race, familial circumstances, weight, whatever. This family got a complaint filed because they had "clutter" in their home. Not unclean. Not unsafe. There was clutter. 3. Please interview your prospective volunteers to ensure they are actually interested in the mission of your organization and not on a power trip or out to save the world by making everyone like themselves. There are ways to conduct those interviews that are not straight-up asking, "Hey! Are you on a power trip?" Rarely do any of the systems work the way they're supposed to for us and our kids. That's legal, CPS, mental health, education, etc. Please do not make it harder.
