In the ever-evolving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) landscape, consultants are embracing new strategies to foster meaningful change. 💼✨ Here are some approaches gaining traction: 1️⃣ Intersectionality as a Catalyst: Recognizing that individuals possess multifaceted identities, the tech industry increasingly understands the need for an intersectional lens. Beyond gender and race, it's about acknowledging the intricate interplay of factors like disability, LGBTQ+ status, and socioeconomic background and how race impacts other identity markers 2️⃣ Inclusive Design Principles: Technology platforms are prioritizing inclusive design to create products and services that cater to a diverse user base. By considering individuals' varied needs and experiences, from different abilities to cultural backgrounds, they're fostering a more accessible digital landscape. 3️⃣ Diverse Talent Recruitment: The workforce is undergoing a paradigm shift with an intentional push for diversity. Companies are recognizing the value of hiring talent from various backgrounds, bringing unique perspectives that drive innovation and address the needs of a global user base. 4️⃣ Ethical AI Development: Addressing algorithm biases is crucial as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes ubiquitous. Intersectionality plays a pivotal role in developing ethical AI that respects and understands the diverse range of human experiences and steers away from perpetuating discriminatory outcomes. 5️⃣ Collaborative Industry Initiatives: Organizations are joining forces in collaborative initiatives to tackle equity issues collectively. By sharing best practices, resources, and research, the industry works collaboratively to break down systemic barriers and create a more inclusive tech ecosystem. In the dynamic realm of global tech, prioritizing intersectionality is not just about fostering equity; it's a strategic imperative for innovation and sustainable growth. 🎉 Happy Wednesday! As a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in the product and tech industry, I've been diving deep into the data 📊 around gender representation in Product Management. 🌟Intersectional Data & Inclusive Efforts 🌟 What is Intersectional Identity? Intersectional identity acknowledges that an individual's experiences of discrimination and privilege are shaped not by a single aspect of their identity, but by the intersection of multiple factors such as race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic etc. Intersectional Data Defined: Intersectionality involves collecting and cross-analysing data that captures the complexities of individuals' identities, enabling a deeper understanding of their experiences and needs. Examples but not limited to: 1️⃣ Gender: Recognising diverse gender identities beyond the binary, such as non-binary and transgender. 2️⃣ Race & Ethnicity: Acknowledging the varied experiences within racial and ethnic groups, considering factors like nationality, language, and cultural background. 3️⃣ Sexual Orientation: Embracing the spectrum of sexual orientation and identity, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer etc. 4️⃣ Socioeconomic Status: Understanding the impact of economic privilege or disadvantage on individuals' opportunities and experiences. 5️⃣ Disability: Addressing the diverse range of disabilities, along with the intersectionality with other identities such as socioeconomic status and gender etc. Importance of Intersectional Data: 1️⃣ Enhanced Understanding: Intersectional data provides a more nuanced understanding of diverse communities, allowing organisations to tailor their inclusion efforts. 2️⃣ Targeted Solutions: By recognising the unique challenges faced by individuals with intersecting identities, organisations can develop targeted solutions to address systemic barriers. 3️⃣ Improved Outcomes: Inclusion efforts informed by intersectional data lead to more equitable outcomes, fostering a culture of belonging where all individuals thrive. 4️⃣ Empowerment & Representation: By valuing and incorporating intersectional data, organisations empower minority voices and promote more accurate representation. Steps Towards Implementation: 1️⃣ Data Collection and Analysis: Implement systems to collect and analyse intersectional data, ensuring privacy and confidentiality. 2️⃣ Education: Provide training to employees and leaders on the importance of intersectionality and how to use it to create inclusive environments. 3️⃣ Policy Review: Regularly review organisational policies and procedures to identify and address any biases or barriers to intersectional inclusion.

How do we measure the value of an employee today? Is it their university degree, level of experience, or even their gender? The answer is no. The usual outdated "standards" are no longer applicable as AI takes over creativity. It's time to consider the light in a person who still looks to make a difference in the future. Let's value the 360°C person and not the painted image of a century-long pre-painted mold. We should look for the spark of interest in individuals and help them file their stone into a diamond. It's time to break the barriers of exclusion and promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Everyone deserves an opportunity to do what they love without any fear of exclusion based on their gender or life circumstances. Let's make the future of work brighter for everyone. What are your views on this ? #value #future #diversity #inclusion

🏳️🌈 Want to support gender and LGBTQ+ inclusion? Here are 8 things you can do: 📏 Measure transgender and non-binary gender diversity, not just men/women. 📁 Offer the option to use the gender-neutral titles like “Mx” in business systems. 🏥 Provide healthcare benefits to support employees who are transitioning. 👫🏻 Invest in “Pride allies”, who are trained, informed and have responsibility for being visible and vocal advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusion within the business. 📆 Mark moments of awareness such as International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. 🗣 Adapt the language and content of family policies to be inclusive of same-sex couples. 📒 Have a gender expression and transition policy. 🚻 Gender-neutral and accessible toilets. Let's make a positive change together! 💪🏻 #InclusionMatters #LGBTQSupport #GenderEquality #DiversityAndInclusion

Thrilled to have been part of the Nasscom Global Inclusion Summit 2024🌟 This year’s theme, GET REAL - Embrace Diversity, Elevate Together, emphasized that inclusion must go beyond symbols to drive real, actionable change.💡 Three key insights that stood out: 🌈 Pink washing in Companies: Many organizations display LGBTQ+ support with Pride events and rainbow logos, but true inclusivity often falls short within the workplace. It's not just about celebrating—it's about ensuring policies like gender-neutral restrooms and comprehensive healthcare for transgender employees are in place, fostering a genuinely inclusive culture. 🏠 LGBTQ+ Housing and Connectivity Challenges: Despite inclusive hiring efforts, LGBTQ+ employees often face barriers like housing discrimination and poor last-mile connectivity, leading to higher attrition. Lack of safe, affordable housing near workplaces and unreliable transportation options can make it difficult for these employees to stay in their jobs. Inclusion must address these external challenges to truly support diverse talent. 🤖 Bias in Generative AI and LLMs: AI’s potential is immense, but so is its risk for perpetuating bias. Discussions highlighted how rural women in India are helping diversify data sets, reducing AI bias. The gendering of AI assistants (like Siri and Alexa) as female, versus male-named LLMs, underscores the need for more thoughtful, inclusive AI design that breaks away from reinforcing stereotypes. These conversations at the summit were a powerful call to action. Let’s ensure our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion translates into real-world impact—both in our workplaces and beyond. 🚀 #Inclusion #Diversity #Sustainability #GIS2024 #DEI #Leadership #LGBTQ+ #AI #NASSCOM Susmitha Devisetty Rita N.
