Exciting news on the renewable energy front! A coalition of 14 tribes, led by the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, has secured a significant $135,580,000 in funding for solar energy projects. This initiative, part of a Biden administration program, aims to bring jobs to indigenous communities and make electricity more affordable for households. It's a powerful step towards a more sustainable future for all. The Environmental Protection Agency recently announced $7 billion in "Solar for All" grants, with 60 awardees, including the MHA Nation, set to benefit. This funding, sourced from the Inflation Reduction Act, will help bring residential solar systems to around 900,000 low-income and disadvantaged households. Six of these grants, totaling $500 million, are earmarked for tribes, highlighting the importance of empowering indigenous communities in the renewable energy transition. This initiative not only promotes clean energy but also economic empowerment and environmental justice. By investing in solar energy projects, we are not just reducing carbon emissions but also creating opportunities for communities that have long been marginalized. 🚀 Excited to announce the publication of our latest research on innovative photovoltaic technologies in Germany! 🇩🇪🌱 Our study, published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, explores the potential of floating, parking, and agrivoltaics (agri-PV) in reducing land use conflicts and contributing to Germany's renewable energy goals. We found that: - Floating PV can add up to 4.7 GWp. - Parking PV has a potential of up to 24.6 GWp. - Agri-PV could contribute between 3215 GWp and 5437 GWp. This research provides a comprehensive analysis and a transparent, reproducible methodology for assessing PV potentials. To advance its goal of being zero-carbon by 2038, the University of Manchester has agreed to purchase enough energy generated by Enviromena’s new solar farm – the Medebridge Solar Farm – to cover up to 65% of the University’s electricity demand. Located in Medebridge, Essex, the solar farm will span 175 acres of low-grade agricultural land and comprise 104,000 solar panels. Enviromena will also enhance the existing hedgerows and plant native grassland and wildflower meadow beneath and around the solar arrays to encourage wildlife nesting opportunities and improve habitat connectivity. Under the Corporate Power Purchase Agreement between the partners, the University has committed to purchasing 80% of Medebridge’s 58 GWh total annual generation capacity for the next 10 years. The Medebridge Solar Farm is currently under construction and is expected to be energized by Q3 2025. This changes everything. Our innovation is to help local solar developers access credits so that their customers can continue to afford solar and they can connect more people to solar. We recently facilitated a collaborative workshop with members of the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone (BBAMZ), the largest industrial precinct in Tasmania, responsible for 60% of Tasmania’s manufacturing exports. 💡 Led by Rocío R., we explore the transformative opportunities created by a new energy system. The session focused on how the Bell Bay ecosystem can distribute and harness upcoming renewable energy sources and their by-products. We also shared Australian and international examples of industrial clusters successfully powered by renewable energy. Through interactive sessions, we brainstormed immediate and long-term opportunities for the Bell Bay precinct. 🤝 A key takeaway was the importance of collaboration within the Bell Bay ecosystem, and the immense potential of working collectively rather than as individual, neighbouring entities. Thrilled to share that I've recently attained a certification in Renewables, Sustainability, Energy-Demand, Power to X, and Derivatives. This accomplishment stems from a collaborative effort between the Engineering faculties of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and the NUST Namibia The course provided a comprehensive focus on various aspects, including: socio-economic factors, hydrogen, sustainability goals, renewable energy, electricity storage, hydrogen production, large-scale storage, distribution, mobility applications, safety, and regulations. Mirroring the broader Asian region’s dominance of the global floating PV (FPV) market, Rystad Energy research shows that Southeast Asia will account for 10% of the region’s total solar capacity by 2030, encompassing ground-mounted, rooftop and FPV installations. "FPVs have emerged as a game-changer for Southeast Asia, catalyzing the region’s push towards clean energy by maximizing its abundant solar resources and overcoming limited land availability. Their modular design allows for integration with existing hydropower dams and unlocks tremendous opportunities for hydropower-rich nations like Laos, Thailand and Indonesia.
