Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for greater use of technology and the deployment of a “smart system” for border defence to meet “new opportunities and challenges”. The instructions were made during a group study session on Tuesday attended by the Communist Party’s 24-member Politburo, the party’s top policymaking body. Such sessions usually give a glimpse of the leadership’s priorities. Xi highlighted the need to “strengthen technological empowerment” in border defence, “enhance the development of new methods and conditions for border, maritime, and air defence, and build a comprehensive and smart management and control system”. https://lnkd.in/dGzcdg_J

You would think that Russia has enough on its plate with the war in Ukraine but apparently not.   In the early hours of 23 May, Russian border guards removed the buoys placed in the Narva River by Estonian border guards. In order to do this, the Russians had to enter Estonian waters.   It was announced a couple of days ago, that Russia is challenging the delineation of the border between Estonia and Russia in the river. Not only is Estonia a NATO member, it is also host to one of eight NATO battlegroups, known collectively as NATO’s Forward Presence.   So, this is yet another episode of Russia increasing the pressure in another of the grey areas between war and peace. MiG-29, MiG-31 fighters prevent US Air Force B-52N bombers from violating state border The Defense Ministry added that "when the Russian fighters approached, the US strategic bombers turned away from the Russian state border MOSCOW, July 21/ MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighters prevented two US Air Force B-52N strategic bombers from violating the Russian state border, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. "On July 21, Russian means of airspace control over the Barents Sea detected a group of air targets approaching the Russian state border. In order to identify the air target and prevent the violation of the Russian state border, MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighters were raised in the air. The crews of the Russian fighters identified the air target as two B-52N strategic bombers of the US Air Force," the ministry said. The Defense Ministry added that "when the Russian fighters approached, the US strategic bombers turned away from the Russian state border." "Russian aircraft returned safely to their home airfields, the violation of the Russian state border was prevented," the Defense Ministry added. The Ministry emphasized that the flight of the Russian aircraft was carried out in strict compliance with international rules on the use of the airspace over neutral waters in compliance with safety measures. #business #finance #financialservices

#Lithuanian authorities are planning to deploy a fleet of engineering equipment on part of the state border with Russia. According to the Lithuanian broadcaster, the facilities are needed "to stop the possible movement of the enemy." Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė visited #Klaipėda to discuss strengthening border security with Russia. The official held meetings at the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service and the Coast Guard unit that was reconstituted this year. It is reported that Lithuania will continue repairing and installing patrol routes on the border with Russia. It will also update its border surveillance systems, drone systems and anti-drone capabilities, strengthen cooperation between border guards and the Lithuanian army, and organize joint exercises. The Baltic states, in view of a possible Russian invasion, have begun to strengthen a thousand-kilometer stretch of their eastern borders. They are building the so-called #Baltic Defense Line, which consists of barriers and bunkers. Each bunker will have an area of about 37 square meters, will be able to accommodate about 10 soldiers, and will be protected from artillery strikes. According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the state border with Russia is controlled by surveillance systems, including places where there is no physical barrier. This part of the border is guarded by the #Pagėgiai Frontier District and the Coast Guard Detachment. The length of the border between Lithuania and the Russian Federation is 30 km of land, 206 km of river and 30 km of lake territory, and there is also a 22 km section of the interstate maritime border. Since September 2022, the Lithuanian authorities have officially banned Russians from entering their country on any #Schengen visa. As reported, Lithuania will help Ukraine build a number of new schools underground. The projects will be implemented in #Odesa, #Donetsk, #Zaporizhzhia, #Mykolaiv, #Sumy and #Chernihiv regions. Russian troops, border guards thwart Ukrainian army’s advance in Kursk Region — top brass "They are thwarting attempts by separate enemy units to break through deep into the territory in the Kursk area," Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement MOSCOW, August 8/ Russia’s Battlegroup North and border guard units have thwarted the Ukrainian army’s advance and breakthrough attempts in the Sudzha and Korenevo districts of the borderline Kursk Region over the past 24 hours, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Thursday. Russia’s Battlegroup North units jointly with border guards of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) "keep destroying Ukrainian armed formations in the Sudzha and Korenevo districts of the Kursk Region directly adjacent to the Russia-Ukraine border," it specified. "Over the past 24 hours, active operations by state border protection forces operating jointly with border guards, reinforcement units and deployed reserves, air and missile strikes and artillery fire have prevented the enemy’s advance. The troops are striking uncovered clusters of Ukrainian manpower and equipment. They are thwarting attempts by separate enemy units to break through deep into the territory in the Kursk area," the ministry said in a statement. The Ukrainian military launched a massive attack on the borderline Kursk Region on August 6. A missile danger has been repeatedly declared on the territory of the Kursk Region. The Ukrainian army’s gunfire and drone attacks have killed five civilians. Since Operation Condor was modelled off of the Green Beret Phoenix Program, which was based off of a new form of warfare called counterinsurgency and was to revolutionise and forever change how all warfare would be fought in this new era of combat, it is important we understand what this in fact was and how it managed to take-over and entirely replace the traditional operations, service and philosophy of the US military that had existed up until this revolutionary point in time.
