The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) hosted its yearly Youth Forum, a three-day conference joined by hundreds of young people ready to discuss issues pertaining to climate change, youth inclusion in multilateralism, and AI, among other topics. The UN says it is all for youth empowerment. UN agencies love bringing young people to the UN who, easily impressionable and emotionally driven, are eager to pledge allegiance to everything set forth by the UN in its 2030 Agenda. It’s a win-win scenario where young people feel important and validated while UN agencies and progressive member states feel legitimized for having the good and innocent on their side. 🌍🎉 Happy United Nations Day! As we celebrate the UN’s global efforts for peace, sustainability, and human rights, let’s also reflect on how Inner Development Goals (IDGs) can help us grow as individuals to better tackle the world’s challenges. Achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires not only external action but also inner transformation. Here’s how the UN’s work connects with the 5 key IDG skills: Being (Self-awareness) 🌱: Just as the UN promotes global peace, we can cultivate self-awareness and mindfulness to stay calm and grounded in our own lives. Thinking (Cognitive skills) 🧠: The UN addresses complex global issues, and we, too, need critical thinking and creativity to navigate challenges in our work and communities. Relating (Empathy) 💙: The UN’s work to feed over 100 million people through the World Food Programme is a reminder of the importance of compassion and caring for others. Collaborating (Social skills) 🤝: UN peacekeeping relies on cooperation and communication, just as we must build collaboration and trust in our teams to drive positive change. Acting (Driving change) 🌍: The Paris Agreement, with 197 countries working together on climate change, shows the need for courage and responsibility to take meaningful action, both globally and personally. Talk to us if you’d like to know more about using the Inner Development Goals with your Green Team or Leadership Team. This #UnitedNationsDay, let’s remember that building a better world starts with inner growth as much as outer action. Together, we can transform ourselves—and the planet! 💙🌍 #InnerDevelopmentGoals #IDGs #UNDay #SustainableDevelopment #Leadership #Empathy #Collaboration #Resilience

As far back as I can remember, I’ve heard that youth hold the key to (a better) future. In my youth, I believed this and had ideas about what had to and could change. Back then, nothing could’ve shaken my steadfast idealism. While young at heart, I technically no longer fall in that category… 🙈 ! With the passing of time and with what the world has been witnessing, my idealism has somewhat eroded. I hang onto hope in many ways but interactions with youth through my work and other spaces are mainly what has kept it alive. I sometimes wonder how they could possibly still believe in a better future. And then I remember how I once fully believed in it, too. They remind me that while there’s still so much to address in our world, positive change has also happened, however hard-won. Through them, I continue to learn. I choose to believe in today’s youth, and the next generation to come, if things don’t change in our lifetimes. I believe in the importance of intergenerational action and solidarity. Working together, we have a stronger chance of bringing about positive change. I’m not certain that signing this open letter will make a difference but I believe in youth and their message of hope and action. So, it just might be worth trying. Do you still believe in the promise of a better world for all? #OurCommonFuture #YouthLead #Hope
In an era marked by challenges that threaten #OurCommonFuture — from escalating conflicts to environmental crises — it's more urgent than ever that we join together to raise our voices to push for urgent and inclusive change 🚨 We need world leaders and institutions to take immediate action to make global policymaking and decision-making spaces more representative of the communities they serve. Putting more diverse perspectives around the decision-making table is the only way to ensure we don’t continue to repeat past mistakes. Young people recognize this perhaps more than anyone else, as the generation that will live with the consequences of the decisions taken today. By championing intergenerational solidarity and finding innovative solutions even in the most challenging of circumstances, young people remind us that a better world is still possible 💪 That is why we are mobilizing young people and allies around the world in support of an open letter, letting world leaders know: It’s time to let #YouthLead ✊ Join the movement by signing the open letter & letting leaders know it’s time to #ActNow ✍️ bit.ly/LetYouthLead

Consider attenting or being involved (and informed) in the United Nations Summit of the Future 2024. All issues surrounding the topic of ageing and ageism are GLOBAL in nature, so we need to continually expand our sphere of knowledge regarding issues affecting ALL nations. "We know from the UN Global report on ageism and the Connecting Generations guide that intergenerational solidarity is built when we inclusively harness the resources that both younger and older people can offer each other and those around them." https://lnkd.in/eBPXznjD #UN #theSummitoftheFuture #UN #healthyaging #intergenerationalsolidarity #shapingourfuture #combatageism #WHO #HelpAgeInternational #DecadeofHealthyAging #

Expert in engineering, security, and education with a proven track record in managing projects valued at $1.2 billion. A dedicated advocate for human rights and gender equality.
As someone who’s spent years exploring the depths of human potential, I often reflect on what our purpose is. At its core, I believe humanity is driven by a deep curiosity to learn and grow. We’re constantly seeking to understand our world and push the limits of what we can achieve. But it’s not just about knowledge; it’s also about connection. Our ability to empathize and collaborate is what makes us truly unique. Together, we’ve built incredible societies and accomplished amazing things, from groundbreaking scientific discoveries to stunning works of art. We also have a responsibility to take care of our planet. As stewards of the Earth, we need to adopt sustainable practices that ensure a healthy future for ourselves and other living beings. In the end, I think our purpose is all about finding a balance—between personal growth and collective progress—and leaving a positive impact for generations to come. Let’s keep striving for that harmonious existence together. #HumanityFirst #EmpathyInAction #CollectiveProgress #SustainableFuture #PurposeDriven United Nations UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC World Humanity Commission

🌍 UNGA Day 1 Reflections 🌍 It’s that time of year when New York turns blue and world leaders gather. Having attended the past two UNGAs as part of the private sector, I remember how challenging it was to access key UN events—almost like an exclusive club for happy fews. The good feeling pulse was outside in events driven by civil society and the private sector. 💡 Now on the other side, I see the disconnect. Diplomacy is critical, and so is the energy from these outside players. We need to reconnect the best of both worlds to truly drive change. Some early thoughts: ➡️ World leaders are more divided than ever, and many governments are in transition. The result? Lots of last minute agenda changes and uncertainties on expectations. ➡️ Today, the Summit of the Future headlined the day. With anticipation in the air, Guterres had three speeches ready—one for approval, rejection, or if things remained unclear. Thankfully, the Pact of the Future was adopted, pushing for more inclusive, networked multilateralism. And this includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations - two breakthrough engagements prepared by great people committed to a better future for our children. The big question: Will leaders turn these declarations into action? Tomorrow, the side event marathon begins. 🎯 For me, it’s all about addressing the polycrises and tackling our increasingly challenging humanitarian funding landscape. Onward! 🚀

🌍 Education, healthcare, energy, social security and care are human rights. The public services that provide them form the foundation of a dignified life. 📉 Today, these rights are at risk due to the climate and economic crises, which exacerbate poverty levels and threaten development across the world. 🌐 Instruments such as the #PactForTheFuture will play an essential role in shaping a more equitable path forward. 💡 The #SummitOfTheFuture is a unique opportunity to recharge efforts toward existing global commitments and face emerging challenges. 🤝 Between September 21 and 22, world leaders will gather for the #SummitOfTheFuture at the United Nations with a single objective: to forge a new international consensus for a better future.
