🌟 Exciting Opportunity for Mental Health Researchers! Are you passionate about advancing mental health interventions? The Wellcome Trust is offering substantial funding opportunities for teams of researchers to investigate the causal mechanisms behind effective interventions for anxiety, depression, and psychosis. The Mental Health Award provides up to £5 million for research on identifying the active ingredients that drive symptom reduction or resolution. This funding, available for up to 8 years, welcomes research exploring biological, cognitive, behavioral, relational, and societal factors. 🚀 In addition, there is an opportunity to accelerate scalable digital mental health interventions. The objective is to evaluate and enhance digital interventions for early intervention in depression, anxiety, and psychosis. Being a psychiatrist, we face a lot unique challenges in our clinical practice that often goes under recognised and unaddressed. With the privilege of having worked in different countries, I can comment that there is always some degree of fear about stigma for the patients across different continents. However, it does feel like the fear of stigma is too high in our Middle Eastern Region to the point that even well educated patients in good position seem to be too afraid of seeking professional help!🙁 And, more interestingly, when they mange to pick up some courage (or may be the burden is too much to bear) and pop in for a consultation, at the end still they resist the idea of medication. I do spent more time in addressing stigma and explaining the need for the medication, and how they deserve to live a fulfilling life… etc, often successful in helping them to accept!😊 However, I do think that there is a collective responsibility for everyone in the society, country and region in addressing this widespread stigma against mental health problems by being more supportive, accepting and encouraging! Perhaps we need a wider mental health awareness programs and anti-stigma campaign across the region..🤔😀
