The graph below, from https://lnkd.in/eDhybMXz, is just one of many reasons why the USA needs its Environmental Protection Agency rather than an Environmental Plundering Agency.

I am thrilled to publish today my first ever Chief Regulator’s Report, a review of all the activities the Environment Agency regulated in 2023-24. I am calling for reforms to the regulatory framework to help us deliver the change needed to better protect communities and the environment and enable businesses to grow. I’m pleased to say that 93% of business comply with their permits and meet the standard required, but there are still rogue operators who continue to be reckless, harming their local communities, and they were punished with hefty fines totalling £8.7 million over the last year. The report also looks at the Environment Agency’s own performance as a regulator and identifies the changes needed to help England respond to a changing environment and support government priorities.
We're putting the spotlight on environmental regulation, helping businesses, communities and the environment to thrive and protecting them from rogue operators committing environmental crimes. Check out the key findings from our Environment Agency Chief Regulator's report 👇 https://lnkd.in/e77pZVrR

This is worthy of a read. The first Chief Regulator’s Report demonstrating that the Environment Agency’s role in regulating business is more important than ever. It also recognises that the challenges ahead mean that we need to be agile and pragmatic, working collaboratively with communities and technology providers but maintaining a robust approach to protecting, and improving the environment. And, where we need to, intervening and taking proportionate enforcement action.

Today I outlined my next steps and commitment to better environmental protection. I believe in an Environmental Protection Agency, and the establishment of an independent panel to look at environmental governance is a significant step forward. https://lnkd.in/eqE8Avt8

To avoid runaway global heating — which would spell the end of human civilization within this century, and the likely deaths of billions within 2-3 decades — human civilization must cut greenhouse gas emissions (which means cutting fossil fuel uses) 75% BEFORE 2030, and 90% by 2040. Human civilization is also in a state of extreme ecological overshoot, using natural resources far faster than they can replenish. This creates the risk of collapse of large segments of human civilization by mid-Century, even if there were no global heating. Mitigation requires global energy cuts of >60% by 2040. In short, 75% of fossil fuel uses must be eliminated BEFORE 2030, 90% by 2040, if there is to be any possibility for avoiding runaway global heating that will end human civilization and cause the deaths of many billions of people during this century. These cuts must be made no matter what the consequences... because any other consequences will be of less scale and severity than failing to make these cuts. It is imperative that INGAA, and others in the fossil fuel industries, accept these facts, and select pathways to phase out their businesses, beginning immediately — for their own good, as well as for the greater good.
The INGAA membership applauds today's decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to issue an emergency stay of the Environmental Protection Agency's "Good Neighbor" Rule. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gJUSubA6

Today the United States Environmental Protection Agency finalized improvements to the Lead and Copper Rule. The rule will require drinking water systems across the country to replace lead pipes within 10 years, and require more rigorous testing of drinking water, amongst other things. This is a huge steps towards advancing environmental justice in America!!! #cleanwater #environmentaljustice #environmentallawyer
