What makes a city centre vibrant at night? It's not just about cultural events or business activities, but also efficient services, good design and lighting which make streets and squares safe and enjoyable for all. Today with the partners of the URBACT network Cities@Heart we are exploring how to revive the attractiveness of central areas of the cities while creating a sense of belonging among residents and stakeholders. The Baseline Study and Network Roadmap of Cities After Dark highlights some of the most interesting practices and policies on night-time economy developed by European and global cities. The first URBACT network on night-time economy, that I'm guiding as Lead Expert, is developing a wealth of knowledge on how to improve services, business and cultural vibrancy, safety, green areas and public spaces at night. Redesigning our cities and neighbourhoods. Barcelona's supeblocks reroute cars to create space for pedestrians, cyclists, group gatherings, and greenery, creating an urban area that is more vibrant, liveable, and resilient.
