Stop cutting 10 shots into 3 seconds in your videos. The brain is good, it will pick things up. I know everyone does the quick edit to catch attention, but it needs to have intent. I’ve just seen a video about the architecture of a stately home. But the first 3 seconds had no less than 7 shots. How the hell can I appreciate the architecture of the building if I don’t have time to see it. If the content in your video isn’t good enough (which I’d argue a stately home definitely is) you’re going to lose the audience after 3 seconds anyway so why bother.

If you create a video for £2000 and the client is going to make £10000 in sales with it, it’s easy to justify the cost. But if it’s harder to see a return on investment at the planning stage, it’s easy to question the cost. What a client doesn’t see is the editing process and this can easily take up most of the time. We filmed a training series last month. 2 people x 10 hour days x 3 days Editing time 2 people x 40 hours each (80) Even at national minimum wage these are the people costs for Filming £686.40 Editing £915.20 £1601.60 total This doesn’t take into account any planning, all the equipment used and any business costs and profit. My mum just received a quote to sort the gardens £1500 for a days work. But quote more than £500 for video and people freak out. Video for business costs money, it’s more than talking to your phone, sticking some emojis on screen and hitting post.

Why have I just scrolled LinkedIn and seen this post 4 separate times, from different people, not reposted ? nobody will remember: - your salary - how “busy you were” - how many hours you worked people will remember: Where the hell are the posts from my actual network I’ve chosen to follow and connect with?

To comment or not to comment ? Do you find yourself scrolling, a post catches your eye and the reply writes itself in your head? But sometimes you think it’s not your place to comment. I read a post this morning from a fitness coach addressing an exercise to help posture. (A decade ago I was a trainer specialising in training people for lifting competitions) The advice on this post was safe, correctly demonstrated, but it had no place being aimed at their target audience. It was a small specialist exercise that most people probably haven’t heard of and without other exercises it is pretty much ineffective. But, you don’t always want to sound like a know it all when someone is just trying to make a living (and it was still safe) Do you have an expertise you no longer use in your job? Would you have commented ?

Yesterday i was asked what an influencer was by an older generation We’ve always had influencers, long before some of us were born. Technology and platforms have just changed the game. In marketing terms you could argue it’s just a publicly known person who has a large enough audience on a given platform/platforms. In the past it’s been Professional Athletes Actors TV personalities Now anyone with the right skills and marketable personality can do it and we have different levels from someone with an audience of 10,000 to someone with 10 million The difference now is an influencer tends to be directly connected to their audience and dictates the flow of their content whereas it used to be, put a famous face in a TV ad that everyone knows and likes. (Though that still happens today)

Have we all become AI robots on LinkedIn? I’m talking about replies on posts Some replies are obviously fake but it’s getting harder to tell because people don’t talk how they talk in real life on here. Don’t get me wrong, it might take 12 months before I can lovingly call you a c*nt with all the love my heart can muster but surely in our real life conversations we don’t wholeheartedly agree with everything our friends and peers say. If anything we acknowledge and then add to the conversation with our own thoughts. Maybe I’m being disagreeable Do you agree? What is the biggest sticking point in getting your customers into your clinic for a consultation? If you provide any service that involves a person and their body, they want to feel safe, dignified and well looked after. They’re probably nervous, anxious and might be lacking confidence. Their desire to use your service could come from low self esteem, comparison to all the media they consume or peer pressure from friends. You need to show them that you can address all these points. That’s partially why you have consultations first. Both parties get a chance to learn about each other. Through video content, you can address all of these issues. You can show the caring staff in your business The warm, comforting and clean clinics they will be visiting Past customers who have been through exactly the same thing (relatability is huge) A quick google search shows tens of clinics in every area. Can you empathise ? See I’m great at it. I’m also really sh!t at it. I can watch a commercial or read an article and be a bawling mess on the floor. I can come up with creative ideas and ways in which a video project can create an emotion in your customer. But when it comes to talking to people close to me, I’m rubbish. I can’t say ‘it’ll be ok’ ‘don’t worry about it’ I hate sugar coating. I’m realistic. If a situation is bad, I look to solutions and plan fixes for said situations. If I feel sh!t. I don’t want people telling me it’ll be fine. I can work with a ‘have you thought about it this way’ but sugar coating doesn’t work. Anyone else relate to this ?

It’s like putting a jigsaw together when you haven’t seen the picture on the box And hopefully you have all the pieces. Each little box represents a different video or audio clip. What this doesn’t show is the adjustment of audio levels, reframing and colouring of shots, that’s all on top of this. Planning a video is the most important stage. You, the client explain your idea, we visualise and film it and then construct your idea to hopefully show you what was in your head. You can’t skimp on the planning time, your idea and our expertise is what brings the idea to life. This timeline represents about 12 hours work for a short video and one in a sequence of 10 videos. As a client or consumer of video, it’s hard to understand the time that goes into a 2-3 minute video but that’s where planning, and setting expectations helps you to understand.
