🌍 #Climatechange is driving extreme weather events like record heat and drought, disrupting security across the globe. While policies are essential to address the #climatecrisis, they come with socioeconomic and geopolitical challenges. Unfortunately, certain actors are exploiting these difficulties to spread misinformation, causing disruption and derailing progress. Read this article by The Lawfare Institute to stay informed and vigilant on climate misinformation - it's about more than just denialism 👉 https://lnkd.in/eWbNfy89 For more Climate Communications Resources, visit our Hub 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecBXDxis #climateaction #climateemergency #climatecomms #climatecommunicators #climatecommunications

🌍 Episode #103: climate change and water resources with Professor Wim Thiery In this episode, Rhea and I talked with Professor Wim Thiery about how climate change is reshaping water resources. We explored how climate extremes like droughts and floods impact water resources, revealing that these changes are increasingly driven by climate change. For instance, in East Africa’s Lake Victoria, more frequent and intense storms are causing dangerous floods, impacting thousands of people. We also discussed how changes in land cover affect water availability and local climates. Professor Thiery explained that while local factors like land management play a role, they interact with the broader effects of climate change. This interaction complicates water management strategies, making it clear that while smart local practices are crucial, they aren’t enough on their own. To protect our water systems, we need global action to cut greenhouse gas emissions, paired with adaptive local strategies. This conversation highlights the urgent need for integrated solutions to tackle the complex challenges climate change poses to water resources. #waterresources #climatechange #smarwatersolutions

Have you taken a peek at our Climate Adaptation Toolkit? 🌍 We’ve been experiencing unprecedented amounts of water on our reserves this winter, and we would like to thank all our visitors for their patience, particularly during reserve closures. Climate change is unfortunately increasing the likelihood of extreme weather events in the UK, and that includes flooding and droughts. The good news is there are many simple and positive ways to prepare for our changing weather, including: 📝 Developing a climate adaptation plan for your local community 🏠 Installing property flood resilience measures ☔ Adding rain gardens and water butts to your outside spaces We have a climate adaptation toolkit full of advice for communities, which is available to download from our website. Around a third of all the losses to homes from 2023’s major weather events were uninsured. As climate-related disasters become more frequent, the risk is that the government becomes the “insurer of last resort”. NZIER’s Insight looks at how we can make it easier to compare the true costs vs the risk to incentivise investment in climate resilience. https://bit.ly/3SlwPHQ

Yesterday, we had an engaging conversation with Hans-Martin Fuessel from the European Environment Agency (EEA) about the health effects of climate change. Floods, heatwaves, water scarcity, and mosquito- and bacteria-borne diseases are just a few of the threats we face. The takeaway? We need to act quickly. For more details, read the recently published Climate Risk Assessment for Europe by the EEA: 👇 https://lnkd.in/d-nzkgrv #EuropeanUnion #climatechange #healthrisks

In view of ever-increasing weather extremes such as a multi-year drought in East Africa, flooding in China and Europe, and extreme heat and wildfires in the United States of America and Canada, among others, narrowing the adaptation finance gap is of particular importance because of the high benefits that investments in #adaptation can offer in terms of reducing climate risks and improving equity and climate justice. #AdaptationInFocus #OurPlanetOurClimateOurFight Agape Earth Coalition
