We're rounding out Healthcare Professionals Genomics Education by highlighting the role genetic testing plays in diagnosing rare disease. A genetic diagnosis can drastically improve a patient's health outcomes and even help better plan for the future. The Smith Family Clinic serves as the Alabama Rehabilitation Service Children's Rehabilition Service Genetics Clinic, improving access to healthcare to families whose children struggle with an undiagnosed genetic condition. Kids like Jovi have received the diagnosis they need to adapt their care plans and thrive in life - read more: https://lnkd.in/gvq97Np9

#NEW from #AAIC2023 | #Amyloid prediction models for use in the general population 🎥 🧠 Julia Neitzel, PhD, Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam Medical Center, discusses her recent research to develop #amyloid prediction models for use in the general population. Other studies have developed prediction models for #amyloid #pathology however, these typically utilize #clinical cohorts rather than population-based studies which are more applicable to the general population 🔎 Therefore, the group wanted to validate an #amyloid model in a prospective population-based study to determine if large clinical cohort-based models could be taken into a primary care setting ⭐ They demonstrated that Aβ prediction models including inexpensive and non-invasive measures were successfully applied to a general population-derived sample ⭐ The top performing model incorporated age, #apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 #genotype, family history of #dementia, and sex 🩺 ⭐ Within the top ten predictors of #amyloidpathology was #sleep behavior, which subsequently lead to the group to undertake a study investigating the influence of #sleep and activity rhythms on #amyloid #pathology 💤 Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/e5kqTTEH #Dementia

Listening to Neuroqueer Heresies by Nick Walker and feeling like a very happy autistic nerd!! The way she unpacks the differences between the Pathology paradigm and Neurodiversity paradigm is brilliant. If you're new to Neurodiversity as a concept, I can't recommend the linked essay enough! #neuroqueer #neurodiversity #neurodiversityatwork #neurodiversityawareness #paradigmshift

To drive the discovery of health solutions that better fit the entire population, we must determine how males and females are both similar and different across biological systems. To address this issue, we launched a free training video series to help preclinical researchers navigate the NIH’s 2015 policy on incorporating sex as a biological variable into research. Access the video series here: https://lnkd.in/eCgQRcu9 https://lnkd.in/exr6Ycif #preclinicalresearch #openscience

Happy Monday! Let's dive into today's Daily Dose.. After years of debate about whether or not astrocytes, a subtype of brain cells known as glial cells, can signal, researchers finally have an answer: yes, and no. As it turns out, both sides were correct—and incorrect. Over the years, discrepancies in conclusions resulted because the answer changed depending on which type of glial cells were used in the research. Just like the people in whose brains they live, some glial cells are communicative, and some, not so much. 🔗https://hubs.li/Q027nBKM0 #BRAINWeekcns #BRAINWeek #BRAINWeek2024 #BRAINWeekconference #BRAINWeekmedicalconference #BRAINWeekArizona #ScottsdaleArizona #brainhealth #brain #braincourses #braintopics #brainconference #ce #cme #medicaleducation #medicalcourses #medicalsessions #WestinKierlandResortandSpa #ADHD #ADD #Psychedelics #Alzheimers #stemcelltherapy #Cannabinoids #TourettesSyndrome #Huntingtonsdisease #ParkinsonDisease

Neurodiversity is for everyone, and the first step to creating a neuroinclusive culture is by shifting away from a pathology paradigm. If neurodiversity concepts are new to you, this is an excellent introduction to the concepts and definitions of the movement! #neurodiversity #neuroqueer #neurodiversityatwork #neurodiversityawareness

We see you Linden Clinics, preying on desperate families. Given that autism is an innate neurological difference it's very hard to see how stem cell therapy alone would make any difference. Diet and anti-inflammatory protocols can make a difference however, but only by addressing the impacts of comorbidities. It is possible that stem cell therapy may help with those but that should be made clear. It is so unethical to be claiming to cure autism when at best they are helping mitigate the impact of autistic comorbidities. How on earth can they even begin to claim to treat conditions that they demonstrably don't understand. Autistic people don't need a cure. We need medical care for the health conditions that can go with autism. Addressing those can make our impairments easier to deal with but we are still autistic. And erasing the positives of autism? That's even more harmful. I will be reporting this to the ASA. #clinical #malpractice #healthcare #regulation #autism #ablism.

We are happy to share that the recordings of our Synchrony Symposium 2023 are now available to watch 🎥 Synchrony 2023 was an in-person event held on Oct 20-22 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds, California, with the speaker line up of leading academics, clinical practitioners, pharmaceutical industry leaders, venture partners and emerging biotech companies. It featured the most cutting-edge topics in basic science and clinical research in #autism and related disorders including: ▶️ Update on the clinical trials of #microbiota transplant therapy for autism by James Adams and Khemlal Nirmalkar ▶️ Update on JelikaLite clinical trials of #photobiomodulation therapy for autism - Luis De Taboada ▶️ Update on transcranial magnetic stimulation #TMS therapy - by Lindsay Oberman, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) ▶️ ‘Improvements Following Standard of Care Treatment in ASD-Associated Enterocolitis – presentation by Stephen Walker, and Arthur Krigsman, MD ▶️ Modeling autism with brain #organoids – by Alysson Muotri PhD ▶️ Talk on exploring heterogeneity to advance #precisionmedicine in autism - Evdokia Anagnostou ▶️ Combining #vagusnerve stimulation and behavioral therapy for autism - Crystal Engineer ▶️ Glutamate and behavior deficits - Adrien ESHRAGHI ▶️ Developing valid animal models for autism - Karen Parker, Stanford University And many others! The available videos also include the keynote talk by David Fajgenbaum, MD, MBA, MSc. David is the co-founder of Every Cure and author of the best-seller ‘Chasing My Cure’. In 2010 he was diagnosed with Castleman Disease, which he was told was incurable. He nearly died five times, yet he didn’t give up – using his own samples, records and research he eventually discovered a new use for an existing drug. Now in remission for 8 years, he is on a mission to scale his approach and find cures for diseases that currently have none, including autism. Check out the talks on https://lnkd.in/e4bZ2K8w Synchrony 2024 SAVE THE DATE - July 12-14, Asilomar, CA https://lnkd.in/edCF_G9u #translationalresearch #autismspectrumdisorder #neuroscience #microbiome #therapeutics #future
