Business strategist, team leader, and keen relationship builder who cares deeply about the built environment and the future of our planet
As part of a fun (and nerdy!) personal project, I was introduced to the work of Social Finance. I was totally intrigued by their Career Impact Bonds concept, and asked Jess Brooks: can this be done with climate work? She said yes and "we're doing it"--hooray! I love how the project allows people to get the green jobs that we need today and will need much much more of tomorrow. And the money recycles! 🤩 ♻ We can't recycle plastic, but we sure as hell can recycle money! #workforcedevelopment #climatesolutions

🌍 Exciting news this Earth Day! President Joe Biden has announced significant strides in renewable energy and workforce development. During a visit to Triangle, Virginia, the President unveiled $7 billion in grant funding for solar power under the Inflation Reduction Act, aimed at developing sustainable solar programs across states, territories, tribal governments, municipalities, and nonprofits. 🌞 This initiative is set to empower nearly one million households in low-income and disadvantaged communities, projecting savings of over $350 million in electric costs annually. This is a game-changer for energy access and equity! Additionally, the administration is revitalizing the American Climate Corps. This program isn't just about job creation; it's a comprehensive effort to prepare young Americans for futures in clean energy and climate resilience. 🌱💼 The new partnership with TradesFutures and the apprenticeship opportunities with North America’s Building Trades Unions are pivotal for integrating skilled labor with sustainable practices. It's inspiring to see states like Vermont, New Mexico, and Illinois launching their state-based climate corps, emphasizing local action in our collective fight against climate change. Let's discuss how these initiatives can shape industries and transform communities! #EarthDay #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #SolarPower #WorkforceDevelopment #Sustainability

Consulting with Impact Makers to Accelerate Sustainable Energy, Climate Action and Community Resilience
I'm wrapping up my draft of "Better Funding: Recommendations for State and federal agencies to drive energy and climate action through more effective investment in California local and tribal governments." You can access the link to the latest draft, and a summary table of ideas, via the linked article. The paper shares concerns, ideas, and practices for climate funding deployment mined from years of engagement with local, tribal, state, and federal governments and their partners. Ideas range from fairly basic ways to improve different stages of traditional competitive grantmaking, to more transformational solutions, including piloting a new funding deployment vehicle that aims to dramatically lower the burden on strained community capacity of accessing dollars for their climate needs. If you're organization wishes to sign-on, offer input, or participate in collaborative discussions on this topic with like-minded thought leaders, please contact me by May 31st at ahacker@prospersustainably.com.

Australia can help the world decarbonise 8-10% globally if we focus on our exports (I.e Greening our Iron) OR we can let our economy get smashed when our biggest markets in Asia dry up as they look elsewhere for green commodities in 10 or so years.
I love learning from the brilliant minds across the Australian climate movement including experts like Tim Buckley, Director of Clean Energy Finance, who shares in this interview the seismic opportunities right at our fingertips here in Australia. The solutions to decarbonise our economy already exist, we now need to "fang it on deployment" (looking at you Anna Skarbek) – rolling out these solutions at scale while ensuring communities nationwide are supported and empowered through the process. Changes of this scale don't just happen through wishing and hoping. They need to be fought for, advocated for, resourced and organised around, and to have justice for people and nature embedded at their core. That’s why Groundswell funds strategic climate advocacy, under the guidance of experts across the movement. When great people come together with shared purpose, what's previously been unimaginable can suddenly become possible. By joining forces through collective giving, we can fund and amplify campaigns that will transform public discourse, shape policy, and push for the large-scale changes our world urgently needs. No matter what your capacity, Groundswell Giving exists to connect people who give a sh*t to people who get sh*t done. If you're interested in getting involved – please do reach out. #ClimateAction #CollectiveImpact #MajorGivingCircle #GroundswellGiving #CleanEnergy #ClimateSolutions

The Business Council of Westchester 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is a consortium of private and public entities that is striving to create a reasonable, achievable, and affordable path to the clean energy transformation in Westchester. New York State's Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (the #CLCPA, or "Climate Law") is moving to eliminate fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions. Today, that's primarily motivated by incentives. But soon there will be penalties. NY CITY #LocalLaw97 and others have already created penalties for buildings that don't meet greenhouse gas and efficiency goals. The 2024 fines can be as much as 𝟱𝟬 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 - 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦. The 48 municipalities in Westchester will - sooner or later - enact their own climate legislation. The goal of the BCW Clean Energy Action Coalition is to get in front of these changes and create reasonable plans that will achieve the goals - without massive increases in cost to building owners and developers. Our first strategy meeting is this Thursday. Stay tuned for a follow up regarding our discussion regarding Technologies, Advocacy, Outreach & Education. Excellent article from City & State summing up the second annual Climate Justice Forum – Building the #GreenEnergy Future with Frontline Communities event, co-sponsored by Rise Light & Power, WE ACT for Environmental Justice and the NAACP New York City Housing Authority Branch. The Groundwire Group was excited to attend this #ClimateWeek2024 event, which highlighted the potential for transformative impact from the #cleanenergytransition on everyday New Yorkers. Notable comments: Ali Zaidi, Assistant to the President and National Climate Advisor: “Clean Energy grew twice as fast as the rest of the sector, and it had two times the union density as the rest of the private sector. So this is a chance to lift folks up...” Peggy Shepard, co-founder and executive director of WE ACT describing the need for an equitable energy transition, noted that black New Yorkers are twice as likely to die from heat-related illnesses than white New Yorkers, and pointed to other health disparities, like increased asthma rates. “So it's now time for their fair share benefit, and that's what we mean by just an equitable transition. Now this transition will require a comprehensive all hands on deck reimagining of our economy.” Read the full roundup here: https://lnkd.in/e4aZT8mY
