Allen, a navy veteran living in rural Idaho, was ready for a career fresh start. With support from Social Finance's UP Fund, Allen enrolled in a short-term fiber splicing course through telecommunications school Learning Alliance Corporation. A few weeks later, he graduated and landed a job as a fiber technician earning $25,000 a year more than he made previously. “I’m making great money, great benefits. I can now splice fiber, which is a very in demand job. Everything here has opened for me," said Allen. Slightly non-worky question, but please bear with me. Do any of my expert contacts know who would be an appropriate person to speak with at National Grid, regarding potential DNO-level connection capacity in the former Central Networks West area (central Warwickshire, to be precise)? I know that in the past other DNOs published traffic light type maps of areas which were electrically constrained, but I have not been able to find anything similar for NG as a DNO. The origin of the question is a potential multi-000 house development, with associated school(s), shops, leisure etc - so I’m interested in finding out the extent to which that could be serviced by existing infrastructure or whether there would need to be significant upgrades / reinforcement. Randolph Brazier, Andrew Neves, others working in the DNO space now, or in the past…?? PMs welcome!

What I took away from yesterday's event sponsored by Kiewit, Trimble Inc., 4M Analytics , Infraday, T2 Utility Engineers, and Colorado Department of Transportation was that Jim Anspach, P.G. (r), Dist.M.ASCE, NAC is one gem of a guy. The tributes heaped upon him included: Pioneer; attention to detail; mentor; energy, enthusiasm, utility life cycle, "do the right thing"; the 'why' behind doing the right thing; retirement; re-retirement. And from the man, himself: Use the engineering standards; know what you have put in the ground and document it; human nature is to gamble; the future is bright because we're sharing information. Jim also created a PhD program at Iowa State University to continue the forward progress of SUE (subsurface utility engineering). The State of Colorado thanks you, Jim (not that I speak for the state, but I'm a native, so maybe I can). I only spent a little time with him last night, but I suspect this isn't Jim's last retirement. #DamagePrevention #UtilityLocate #Construction #AlertMeter #EmployeeSafety #ExcellenceInEngineering #Education #Collaboration #Engineering #Utilities #Accuracy #Confidence

Analyst | Modeler | Building and Enhancing Solutions found at the crossroads of data, technology, and people | Views stated are my own
“the requisite number of DCFC charging ports varies greatly—ranging from 1,200 to 22,000—depending on key assumptions” That’s a huge range! And the article reflects something that I’ve recently been seeing frequently: answers to strategic questions in the energy/decarbonization space, even when investigated with robust analytics and data, often can be summarized as: “It depends”. It depends on the people you want to affect, the goals you want to achieve, and the people and entities who are currently and who will be influencing behavior in the region you’re interested in affecting. A confluence of multiple complex variables makes it difficult to get a straight answer immediately.
As #EV adoption continues to grow, one source of anxiety for people traveling to the national parks or elsewhere is whether sufficient charging infrastructure will be available. A recent NREL study investigated the fast-charging infrastructure needed to enable seamless electrified road trips to national parks and monuments in seven western states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. NREL conducted the study in partnership with utility service provider PacifiCorp and Utah State University. See their analysis results: https://bit.ly/3sIscyI 🏞️ 🚗

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I started as a GIS Planning Intern/Specialist at the City of Greensboro. I linked preliminary site plans, site plans, final plats, zoning documents, comp plan documents, and annexations to GIS layers. I created some of the layers and updated others. I moved on to Triangle J Council of Governments (Central Pines) and I did something similar with Pedestrian and Bike trails (amongst other things.) Now, at the Land of Sky Regional Council, I am measuring pedestrian activity along trails and sidewalks throughout our region. I am visiting prior study sites and examining new sites. Reports are accessible through our Multi-Modal/Transportation Demand Management site. I find it interesting how activity can change over days, weeks, months, and years. These reports can be helpful when measuring changes in activity after trail and sidewalk upgrades are made. https://lnkd.in/evTQySSf
