To understand Indonesian governance today Understand the Javanese culture 👇🏻
Jokowi Was Trying to Tell Us Something 🔍 President Jokowi has long been known to use symbols to communicate political messages throughout his career. Symbolism plays a significant role in his important announcements, inaugurations, choice of words, and particularly in his attire, notably the Batik shirt. These symbols form a crucial part of his communication style. A prime example took place at a critical political event, the PDIP presidential candidate declaration in Batu Tulis Bogor, early in 2023. Amidst party tensions leading up to the 2024 elections, Jokowi made a silent yet powerful statement: while other top officials of his party donned the party's colors, solid red and black, Jokowi chose to wear a Batik shirt. This decision was more than a mere fashion choice; it was a calculated political gesture, signaling his unique and different perspective for the 2024 presidential election. This move would go on to significantly impact Indonesia's political landscape. To gain insights into the thoughts, feelings, and intentions of political leaders', pay attention to the types of Batik and its motifs, that political leaders wear at important events and ceremonies. You might uncover hints about their future plans or political strategies. #indonesia #jakarta #bisnis #jokowi

#ICYMI Senior Fellow Dr Alexander Raymond Arifianto and Research Fellow Dr Adhi Priamarizki tell us more about their recent policy report "Jokowi’s Legacies and the Incoming Prabowo Administration: Change or Continuity?" This policy report aims to do two things: make sense of Jokowi’s ten years in office and its possible legacies for Indonesia, and develop several scenarios for how the Prabowo-Jokowi relationship is likely to evolve once Prabowo assumes office and how Indonesia will move forward under his administration. Indonesia is a truly remarkable nation, celebrated for its vibrant diversity in all aspects - from its people to its rich culture and beliefs. And the best part? Despite these differences, the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika shines as a powerful unifying force. This beautiful phrase, meaning Unity in Diversity, encapsulates the idea that despite our individual identities, we are one strong and united nation. It's an ancient sentiment, taken from a 14th-century Javanese poem, that not only promotes tolerance but also encourages the celebration of diversity. By advocating mutual respect and understanding among different groups within Indonesia, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika has become a guiding principle for our society. This motto holds great significance in promoting national unity and preserving our precious cultural heritage. Its powerful message of inclusivity has helped shape Indonesia into an open and welcoming country for all. So let us continue to embrace our diversity with pride, as it is what makes us truly unique and harmonious as a nation.
