Yesterday, on 28 May, EuroCham’s Circular Economy Committee organised an event on “A Pathway to Circular Economy - Mass Balance Approach”. We would like to express our gratitude to Jan M. Dr. Henke (ISCC - International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) for his very educational and insightful presentation on mass balance and attribution approaches. International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is a globally leading certification system promoting transition to the circular economy and sustainable bioeconomy. They work with businesses, academia and NGOs to advance their vision of sustainable, traceable, deforestation-free and climate-friendly supply chains. One of their three certification schemes is also ISCC Plus, covering circular and biobased chemicals, plastics, packaging and textiles, sustainable fuels outside of the EU, sustainable feedstock and food and renewable feedstock derived from using renewable energy sources, where a mass balance approach can be applied. He discussed the importance of certification, how it can help with carbon reduction goals, the potential it carries to achieve circularity and how it enables brand owners to make verified claims. We wrapped up the presentation with a very vibrant Q&A session, skillfully moderated by Ms Anthea Ow (the LEGO Group). We would like to thank all EuroCham Singapore members and members of EuroChams in the region for joining and making this event a successful one! #TeamEurope #EuroChamSG #CircularEconomy Nele Cornelis Izabela Gasoyan Shelly De Groote Christine Jeremiah Mai Josephine Tanya Sahni Nicole Tok Eva Vincetic EuroCham Indonesia EUROCHAM Malaysia European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) EuroCham Cambodia EABC -The European Chamber of Commerce Thailand

It was a pleasure to speak at the UN Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS)’s SME Series 2024 session on decarbonisation yesterday. Decarbonisation is a priority today for countries and corporates to address climate challenges. This is the first of an SME series organised by GCNS. I was glad to introduce how #Singapore companies are key agents of change in our path towards a low-carbon future. N&E Innovations Pte Ltd shared on their sustainability efforts, and it is great learning about their ViKANG99 solution, which is the world’s first antimicrobial agent that is 100% upcycled from food waste. The agent can be applied in products such as masks and hand sanitizers. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels to create effective disinfectants, as well as optimising process to reduce energy consumption, N&E Innovations is taking an encouraging step towards a sustainable future. In fact, the company is targeting to valorise up to 10 tons of food waste to reduce their carbon footprint by 2030! Enterprise Singapore, together with our industry partners, will continue to build businesses’ capabilities to help them become more sustainable, and reduce their carbon footprint. It is undeniable that we are facing pressing concerns regarding global resource depletion and its potential impact on future generations. This sheds light on the alarming projection of a substantial rise in natural resource consumption by 2060, which poses risks to climate, biodiversity, and pollution control objectives. In response to these challenges, the Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) framework has emerged as a crucial tool for businesses to embrace responsible practices. ESG advocates for ethical investments, sustainable sourcing, and operational excellence, thereby fostering sustainable trade. The article highlights notable companies that have successfully integrated ESG principles into their operations. In Malaysia, government agencies such as MITI and MATRADE are spearheading ESG adoption through initiatives like KenalESG and the iESG Framework. These endeavors seek to embed sustainability into policies and practices pertaining to international trade. Furthermore, MATRADE's Government Sustainability Engagement Programme (GSEP) and Greening of Export Supply Chain (GxSCI) play pivotal roles in fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote sustainable trade. The article underscores the significance of ESG in driving economic prosperity while safeguarding environmental and social well-being. It emphasises the urgency for collective action to secure a sustainable future for generations to come. Special thanks to Edison Choong led by Abu Bakar Yusof, representing MATRADE's sustainability team, for providing the essence of this article. #ESG #Sustainability #MITI

Circular Economy and Beyond: Underway under the Selangor Maritime Gateway initiative, is a sorting facility in collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup, that seeks to minimise waste to landfills while increasing recycling of the floating trash extracted from the Klang River. The Ocean Cleanup is also looking to deploy some 20 Malaysian-made Interceptors around the world next year, including right here on other rivers in Selangor and across Malaysia. Beyond the Interceptors, we are also looking at other solutions to further improve the Klang River. So, look out for these news! Our collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup that started in 2019, exemplifies how local actions can contribute to global outcomes. The vision is clear: to turn polluted rivers into clean, life-sustaining waterways. Catch the full discussion by CNA on our revitalisation efforts, originally aired on 9 August 2024 - (https://lnkd.in/gbgzAN8S). Thank you Melissa Goh, Boyan Slat and the team at The Ocean Cleanup. #CircularEconomy #RiverRehabilitation #Rivers #SMG #LLSB #SgKlang #KlangRiver
