And finally, from Coffs Harbour to our own backyard! Earlier this month SOILCO opened its facilities and gave guided tours to celebrate a very wet International Compost Awareness Week (#ICAW). We welcomed international guests from the DutchPowerGroup, a number of Sydney councils, and for the first time, local residents from the Wollongong City Council region. We were thrilled by the feedback we received following each tour. The Wollongong residents who braved the weather were shown through each stage of the process and were gifted a bag of compost for use in their home gardens. Our guests were fascinated by the composting process and appreciated the opportunity to see their organics being put to good use. #SOILCO #Composting #Sustainability #ICAW #TheLifeGivingSoilCompany

Climate change is shifting the boundaries of nature in unexpected ways, including the mangrove ecosystem. Several phenomena have occurred in mangrove forests, affected by increasing temperatures and rising sea levels, making it a reminder of the importance of mangrove conservation with truly sustainable practices that will not add harmful effects to the environment. See the full video ▶️🔉 Driven by the strong desire to create a healthier mangrove ecosystem, Solinatra with PT. ATMI IGI CENTER through the Center of Excellence, has leading plastic-polybag-free initiative on mangrove planting in Indonesia, home to one of the most extensive mangrove ecosystems with around one fifth of the global mangrove area. 🙌🍃 Mangroves are the champions of carbon sequestration; thus, sustainable mangrove planting ensures nature's resilience in the face of climate change. This initiative is especially significant as we celebrate World Environment Day! 🌍🌿 Sapling planters made of Solinatra are 100% natural and plant-based, revolutionising mangrove tree planting. These rigid and sturdy pots are designed to support the roots of young mangroves, making the planting process more efficient. The entire pot can be harmlessly integrated into water or mud environments. As the pot decomposes, it releases nutrients that nurture the young tree, leaving behind no microplastics and ensuring an eco-friendly lifecycle. 🌱🔄 On this World Environment Day, let's restore our mangrove forests by not adding more plastic during the plantation! 🪴✨ #Solinatra #MakesItAlright #WorldEnvironmentDay #PlasticFree #MangroveForest

Reflecting on My Journey with Save Aravali Trust: A Tale of Volunteerism and Environmental Consciousness As a volunteer with Save Aravali Trust, I've witnessed firsthand the remarkable spirit of community and dedication that drives this organization. Every day, every month, there's someone stepping up, taking more responsibility, and embracing challenges with unwavering determination. It's a beautiful cycle where individuals come together, driven by a shared passion for environmental conservation. What strikes me most about this journey is how seamlessly volunteers fill the gaps left by those who move on due to personal or professional commitments. It's a testament to the collective commitment we share towards our cause. In this ever-evolving landscape of volunteerism, I've come to realize that planting a thought for environmental consciousness is far more crucial than merely planting a tree. Conservation of existing forests holds greater significance than the creation of new ones. At times, I've pondered over the significance of our actions. Is planting trees a novel deed, a necessity, or a duty we owe to our planet? The answers to these questions often elude me. Sometimes, I've felt insignificant in the face of the monumental challenges posed to nature. But then, a simple sight of birds nesting on our trees or insects visiting their flowers fills me with a sense of profound significance. Yet, amidst our love for nature, there exists a paradox. We humans often prioritize our immediate needs and desires over the long-term health of the environment. We seek shade under trees but hesitate to plant them in our own spaces, fearing inconvenience or extra effort. Our needs are indeed rising, and so are our greed. However, it's imperative to recognize that our existence is intertwined with nature. We owe our very existence to the delicate balance of the natural world. As volunteers, as stewards of the environment, it's our responsibility to bridge the gap between our love for nature and our actions. Through our collective efforts, we can inspire change, one person at a time. While the challenges may seem daunting, the power of collective action should never be underestimated. Just as bacteria multiply exponentially, so too can our thoughts and actions towards a greener, more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/gfGThiU3

As the demand for avocados continues to rise, so do the environmental and economic challenges associated with their production. 🥑 In regions like Mexico's Jalisco State, rapid deforestation driven by the avocado industry threatens the product's sustainability and the livelihoods of small-scale farmers. ❌ Initiatives led by organizations like Rainforest Alliance and the 1000 Landscapes For 1 Billion People initiative aim to address these issues by fostering collaborations between stakeholders and leveraging tools like those developed by LandScale to assess and prioritize investments. By empowering small-scale producers and promoting sustainable practices, these efforts seek to ensure a more equitable and resilient future for landscapes like the Sierra de Tapalpa. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ggpRuEF5 Story written by Shannon Sutherland and published in Forbes EQ Brand Voice. #avocadofarming #avocados #sustainablefarming #resilientnature #equitablefutures

Nothing can replace the mother trees being cut down in Bali. But let us give you a little bit of hope... In the next two weeks, we have scheduled to plant three forests, totaling 1,600 native trees. We are hopeful that within our lifetime, we will see these forests grow their own mother trees. And we are starting with this public school! We are planting Miyawaki forest with the students of SMP Negeri13. We hope this small action can ignite a spark in their hearts to connect with mother nature. Making it so that when they are older, they will protect the new mother trees that they helped plant. #naturebasedsolutions #climateaction #sustainability #reforestation

I've been using the Likoni Ferry since I was a kid in Mombasa. The ocean has always looked clean, but I never really thought about it, even though I care about the environment. Today, as I crossed to Likoni, I noticed how spotless the ocean was, despite the littering habits of a majority of Kenyans. Maybe there are people who clean it, maybe not. On my way back, still admiring the clean sea, suddenly someone from another ferry threw a soda can into the water. I was shocked! Why would someone want to mess up such a beautiful place? My phone camera didn't allow me to capture the can from that distsnce. But this person, maybe they just didn't know any better. Thousands of people use this route every day, and there's usually no trash until this one person. As I reflected on the pristine beauty of the ocean during my journey, it dawned on me the importance of conserving our seas in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs call for urgent action to protect marine life and ecosystems (Goal 14), emphasizing the need to prevent pollution, sustainably manage marine resources, and conserve coastal and marine areas🌊 The incident with the soda can reminded me of the fragility of our marine environments and the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding them for future generations. Each of us plays a crucial role in achieving these global goals by reducing our own plastic consumption, properly disposing of waste, and advocating for policies that promote ocean conservation.♻️🐋⛰️🏞️ Let's not only marvel at the beauty of our oceans but also actively work towards preserving them for the prosperity of all life on Earth.Let's all do our part to keep our natural habitats clean. They're our home and home to other creatures. Shaleen Wanjiru John Linus Susan Khasoa #SDG14 #SDG13 #ClimateAction #LifeBelowWater (The image used here is an old one)
