On 19th April 2023, energy markets faced a second day ahead auction for the first time ever. This is because the lower threshold (-€150 at the time) for holding a second auction was broken.  Almost one year on from that event, we decided to analyse the changes that have taken place since then and how that could affect the coming spring and summer’s day ahead markets. The summer solstice was this past Friday (and #ShowYourStripes Day). PV Tech reported that it was estimated that solar provided 20% of global power on the summer solstice, up from 16% in 2023. This is great news for the #EnergyTransition! 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗡𝗘𝗠-𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 🔋 Demand for rooftop solar has crashed in California since the introduction of NEM 3.0. Several other states are mulling similar cuts to PV net metering programs. The transition to California’s new net metering 3.0 (NEM 3.0) regime was justified, in part, as a way to support residential energy storage installations, but the state policy has pushed rooftop solar off a cliff.⚡️ California, once known as a clean energy leader, has fallen off track with its clean energy goals.
