There’s a lot of incredible work going on in the North West’s thriving healthtech scene – and the region deserves an event that matches that energy. HETT Show North really nailed the brief 💥 The SomX and Healthtech Pigeon teams headed to Manchester last month, to meet an impressive lineup of healthtech names and faces spilling the tea on their top projects and priorities for the NHS and healthcare generally. We’re still arguing over which panel was our favourite and who gave us the hottest take, but here are a few top takeaways we could agree on 👇🏼 ✨ Success goes beyond the technology itself; it requires a cultural alignment and staff buy-in to make a real difference ✨ Tech must facilitate seamless patient experiences across all healthcare settings – but there’s currently too strong a focus on transactional moments, rather than the whole patient journey. ✨ Addressing existing infrastructure challenges has to be a priority: without a plan for dealing with technical debt and digital literacy issues, we’re going to get stuck in the mud. We have it on good authority that Healthtech Pigeon captured some ex-coo-sive interviews with innovators live from the floor - keep an eye on the Pigeon LinkedIn channel for more info. AND we'll be back up in Manchester at The NHS Innovation Accelerator 2024 launch on the 27th of March. Get in touch if you want to connect! Huw Penson Daisy M. HealthTechX Global - Read Johan Ottosson key takeaways from the conference last week:
HealthTech - It was great attending the HealthTechX Global Summit last week at The Hurlingham Club. My key takeaways from panels and discussions: 1) The digital health market has matured, and we are past the funding rounds of 2021 and 2022. Companies need to prove the feasibility of their business cases, have a clear idea of where to scale, and have a clear fundraising strategy. Though the current funding environment is challenging the ones doing well now will probably do well in the future as well 2) Hyperscale is out. In selling to the NHS: sales cycles can take time and companies need to make sure they have enough capital to carry them over that threshold. In collaborations: companies find a smaller area of common interest and grow from there. In international expansion: companies need to have a plan but avoid overexerting themselves and losing focus 3) Though AI in healthcare faces a lot of difficulties (regulation, reimbursement, and increases in costs) it remains a valuable tool for many applications. With a global shortage of clinicians and growing health inequalities AI and healthtech more broadly will have an important role to play, and digital and chronic care are a particularly good match Thanks to an outstanding line up of moderators and speakers including: ➡ noel gordon, Chair Telstra Health UK ➡ Jeanette Kusel, Director NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence ➡ Dr. Ben Maruthappu, CEO and founder Cera ➡ Dr Harpreet Sood, VP Primary Care and Partnerships Huma ➡ Kalle Conneryd Lundgren, COO Kry ➡ Molly Gilmartin, AlbionVC ➡ Ranjan Singh, CEO and co-founder HealthHero ➡ Sokratis Papafloratos, CEO and founder Numan ➡ Stephanie Leung, CEO and founder KareHero ➡ Rajiv Tanna, CPO and co-founder, Birdie ➡ Martin McShane, CMO Optum (UnitedHealth Group) #healthtech #healthcare Fairgrove Partners

The first ever HLTH Europe is on the horizon, and we’re already counting down the days…. With an agenda so jam-packed, we don’t even know where to start, and speakers from startups, corporates, VC and health systems all over the world, the organisers also managed to find room for us, too. SomX Cofounder Dr. James Somauroo will be moderating a panel exploring the role of social media in health with Healthy Content. Sick Ideas’ Samira Mousa, Doctor Disney aka Peter Rezkalla, and PEP Matters’ Valerie Storms, PhD… …while our advisor Aahuti Rai is moderating two workshops – the first focused on access to the UK market (with Blüm Health's Michael Watts and Psyomics’ Dr Melinda R.), while the second considers how healthtech companies can rapidly generate the evidence needed to validate their solutions. Our very own Jessica Somauroo will also be there, repping Healthtech Pigeon – if you’re heading to HLTH and want to tell us all about your big news, DM us to arrange a chat. But wait, there’s more – as a HLTH Europe media partner, we’ve got a discount code to share with you... Use the code ‘HE24_SOMX150’ at checkout to get €150 off the price of your ticket. What a brilliant day! Yesterday I travelled to The Hurlingham Club in London for the #HealthTechX Summit, which was fantastic for two reasons: 1. Evergreen Life picked up the 2024 HealthTechX Growth Award 🏆 which honours emerging market leaders in healthtech. Well done and huge congratulations to our team 👏 2. I had the pleasure of taking part in an expert panel focused on ‘Strategies for Success - HealthTech in the NHS Landscape’. Discussion revolved around the success that comes from identifying a problem and offering a fix for it that is sold to many. This can even help companies to go overseas. The difficulties in the UK working with National NHS procurement are that they commission development and not innovation, making it difficult for innovators to sell at National level. The suggested way for companies to succeed when they have products that deliver systemic innovation is to work on changing the environment in the system, rather than sell directly to the NHS Nationally. It was also suggested that if NHS National initiatives focused on defining outcomes and standards for suppliers, rather than procuring software development themselves, we could achieve much more. Innovation would come from suppliers innovating locally where the problems to be fixed are more apparent. The standards would mean that we then have one complete and secure medical record for every patient, at a cost the NHS can afford. I was also fascinated to hear the candid and great advice around making sure your cash lasts between orders – a discussion which I hope can help the UK healthtech market thrive. When I described the NHS customer as a shoal of fish that looks like a whale the supportive feedback from the audience and panel was palpable. 👇 Here I am – with the panel – feeling proud and inspired by the scale of the potential impact offered by innovative healthtech to improve lives 📸 Together we can make a real difference. #NHS #DigitalHealth #HealthTech Great work IBIS Capital 👏
