This week, Corinna Balderramos Robinson, PhD, MPP, MSCJA, SOSi’s Civil Solutions Director of Operations, is sharing her expertise at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Convention and Expo in Las Vegas! As a volunteer member of LULAC and the National Leadership Development Director for the THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC FEDERAL EXECUTIVES (NAHFE), she's speaking in two impactful sessions. First, she'll join a panel discussing "Executive Interview Strategies," offering valuable techniques to help candidates stand out among their competitors. Following this, she'll present and facilitate a hands-on workshop where attendees will learn to establish and refine their LinkedIn and USAJOBS profiles. I am happy to share that I have completed the leadership training program offered by the Collegiate Leadership Institute from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Throughout the program, I acquired a set of valuable skills to apply in my professional relationships and was inspired by the intentionality of the mentors in sharing their wisdom and knowledge. For those interested, here’s the link to this free program: Collegiate Leadership Institute. One great benefit of the program is that it waives the entrance fee for the national SWE conference. The conference features professional development engaging topics that support women in engineering, and it includes an amazing career fair with many companies conducting on-site interviews. I suggest researching the companies attending the conference, checking the jobs they are hiring for, and seeing if they have their own registration link for the WE24 conference to possibly arrange interviews on-site.Additionally, there are opportunities for financial support to attend the conference, such as the collegiate poster and fire competition. This is a great way to practice science communication and share your projects. I’d like to highlight @Salome Perez, who was awarded the opportunity to present her work in cybersecurity and software engineering through this highly competitive national program. The deadline for the next section is coming up soon—June 15! Don’t miss out: Collegiate Competitions.I hope these programs and opportunities are as helpful for you as they have been for me!#Leadership #CLI #SWE #WomenInEngineering #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerFair #ScienceCommunication #LatinasinSTEM #BiomedicalEngineer #ChemicalEngineer

#1in3 Americans have a criminal record, and that often means that they are left out of the workforce. This not only hurts people, it hurts our economy. Despite the progress we've made on #fairchancehiring, I encounter too many leaders who want to hire people with records, but don't want anyone to know about it. In my experience, this isn't going to lead to success. People with records #belong in our workforce and there is a way to implement fair chance policies that keep people safe, garner support from employees, help people with records feel supported, and help businesses succeed and address their labor shortages. But like all new initiatives, success starts with #leadership, #bravery, and #believing in what you do. What is the best career advice you ever received? Should you turn your hobby into a business? Follow your heart? Take advice from friends, or find something that you can excel at? At some point, we are confronted by these questions, particularly during major life transitions, such as entering the workforce, during a mid-career 'plateau', experiencing an unexpected redundancy, starting a business, or even juggling the demands of family and career. It is much easier for people to help us when we can articulate our CAREER DIRECTION. If we have a clear picture of our P1 (promotion 1 level up), and P2 (promotion 2 levels up) and how these roles relate to our career goals, we demonstrate our readiness to take on the challenges of stretch opportunities. Motivation, discipline, and the likelihood that you will persist through adversity will have an outsized influence on the selection decision. When the AFR Women in Leadership award finalists were asked about the best advice they had ever received, Sinead Kaufman, CEO of Rio Tinto Minerals, remarked that "You have to navigate a pathway which is very much around staying true to who you are...Find your own path and don't just try to fit in".
