Sony Music has secured the rights to the music of Queen for approximately $1.27 billion.
This acquisition includes nearly all revenue streams, excluding live performances, which remain with founding members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
This deal surpasses previous industry records, marking the largest purchase of a single artist’s catalog to date. From anthems like “We Will Rock You” to hits such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” Queen's music has become a rock history.
However, this acquisition also raises questions about the ownership of creative work. Imagine if the artists themselves had retained the rights to their music.
The music industry would then be different with artists having greater control over their creative output. This would allow artists to directly benefit from their success, rather than a portion of their profits going to large corporations.
The future of this industry is about artists owning their rights and it is also one of the strongest beliefs at Madverse Music We want creators to have control over their art and we provide them with tools and resources to make this happen
This will create an industry that respects the creators behind the music, allowing artists to grow independently, create freely and contribute even more.
