🗳️ Civic Engagement: Our Power, Our Voice 🗳️ "Voting doesn’t solve everything—but not voting doesn’t solve anything. We’re not saving the system or a party here—we’re saving our ability to fight another day by strategically using the system that still governs us and will impact each of us directly. Let’s get strategic. Let’s go win. And then, let’s keep fighting." — Brittany Packnett Cunningham (@mspackyetti) At SousSHE, we believe in the power of civic engagement to create lasting change. Our mission is to empower young Black girls and women to pursue their dreams in culinary, entrepreneurial, civic, and artistic fields. One vital way we can all contribute to our community’s progress is by exercising our right to vote and participating in civic activities. Here’s how you can get involved: 🔸 Register to Vote: Make sure you’re registered and encourage others to do the same. 🔸 Stay Informed: Follow trusted news sources and understand the issues that impact your community. 🔸 Advocate: Use your voice to speak out on issues that matter to you. 🔸 Volunteer: Get involved with local organizations and campaigns that align with your values. 🔸 Engage Online: Join discussions and share information on social media to raise awareness. 📚 The Power of History in Civic Engagement 📚 "Part of why history is so important in my life is because it brings you an awareness that everything isn't new. It gives context to what's happening right now. History is cyclical but circumstances and technology change. So when social justice topics come up, they're not new. They're just being covered more. We have more ways to record it now." — Yara Shahidi (@yarashahidi) At SousSHE, we believe in the power of understanding history to inform and inspire our actions today. Civic engagement isn't just about the present; it's about recognizing the patterns of the past and using that knowledge to shape a better future. When we participate in civic life, we strengthen our communities and ensure that everyone's voice is heard. Join us in making a difference! Whether it’s voting, volunteering, or simply staying informed, every action counts. Let’s continue to learn from history and work together for a brighter future. #SousSHE #CivicEngagement #EmpowerHer #BlackGirlMagic #SoarBlackGirl #SocialJustice #YaraShahidi 🌐 Learn more about our programs and initiatives: sousshe.org

🗳️ Exciting update! Our partnership for the Rolling for Change campaign, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust, progress is currently underway! 🌟 We've been actively engaging with our community to gather insights and understand the barriers and challenges they face. Through these conversations, it's become clear that there's a disconnect with participating in the democratic process with ethnic diverse communities, specifically the black community in the UK, as they often feel left out and unheard when it comes to politics, and feel that there is a lack of representation leading to many not feeling a connection with the democratic process. Many perceive politics as negative and are unaware of the specific hidden benefits of registering to vote, which our Rolling for Change Ambassadors will share and educate our community on during our campaign. But fear not, we're here to help bridge that gap! Together, we're working to ensure that every voice is heard through empowering our community to register to vote as every vote counts. Stay tuned as we unveil more about the benefits of registering to vote and how you can make a difference in our community. Please take a moment to share this link with friends and family who may not yet be registered to vote: https://lnkd.in/eztrfYrV Our non-partisan Rolling for Change campaign aims to empower ethnic diverse communities, specifically the black community and increase voter engagement. By participating in our upcoming skate events, you not only get to enjoy the exhilarating experience of roller-skating but also contribute to a greater cause and tackle systematic issues by rolling with us. Let's create positive change, one skate at a time! 🗣️ #RollingForChange #RegisterToVote #CommunityEngagement #Empowerment #SkateJamAcademy #RollerSkateWorkshops #LondonSkateCommunity #SkateSkills #rollingforchange #Democracy #Community

Civic participation for youth?! Young people are very important in civic participation, because they bring new approaches and innovative ideas to the community! But what is civic participation? It’s the set of activities which allows citizens to influence policy, local values, and local government priorities. Civic participation is crucial because it teaches us how to live and work together, tolerating different worldviews, values and beliefs in an appreciating manner. Through civic participation society becomes aware of difficulties, social issues and moral questions, therefore people are aware that there are possibilities to lead to good change and building a strong, independent community. How can I become a civically active member of society? You can start being more involved by becoming educated about your country, being informed about local and national news, joining or supporting a political party, volunteering, taking part in a public demonstration, movement building and more. Have you been involved with civic activities? Tell us in the comments!

The onus was on me at my church's youth department week celebration to speak and I spoke about the youth and their civic engagement.I took examples from the life of reputable men and women in the bible who due to their civic engagement brought lasting change to their community.I admonished the church to consider their civic engagement.Examples were taken from the life of Deborah,Esther, David, Jeremiah and Daniel.I encouraged us all to discover our passion, purpose and potential to make us more viable because we would need money for any endeavor even as little as a bottle of oil.Scripture verses were Jeremiah 1:4-10, Daniel 6:3, Romans 13:1-6, Luke 10: 25-37.Gen 1:27-28(I used this verse to speak about the youth and governance). What is meant by civic engagement? Well I got these few. Civic engagement or civic participation is any individual or group activities addressing issues of public concern. Civic engagement includes communities working together or individuals alone both political and non political actions to protect public values or make a change in the community. It involves ways citizens participate In the life of the community to improve the conditions of others. Examples of Civic engagement are political engagement, community engagement, civic skills engagement and social justice engagement. The pleasure is always mine to impact. Sixty years ago today, on June 21, 1964, three young civil rights workers were murdered in Philadelphia, Mississippi by the Ku Klux Klan and members of local law enforcement. James Earl Chaney, 21, of Meridian, Mississippi, Andrew Goodman, 20, of New York City, and Michael Schwerner , 24, also of New York City, were volunteers with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and had traveled to the small town of Longdale, MS to investigate the burning of a Black church. The three young men had joined Freedom Summer 1964 to help Black Mississippians register to vote, fighting back against a system of violence and intimidation designed to prevent Black Americans from exercising their rights at the ballot box. The murder of these young activists brought national outrage and widescale media attention to Freedom Summer 1964, and to the atrocities committed against Black people and communities in Mississippi. Their death was an immense tragedy – and their legacy an eternal call to action. Today, 60 years later, we honor James Earl Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner as we continue to extend the arc of their work. Our young organizers are working nationwide to reach and engage youth voters, especially those who have been marginalized, disenfranchised, or experienced barriers to voter participation. Our young Civic Influencers are spending their summer in a Freedom Summer of Action for the 21st century, mobilizing and activating young voters through in-person and digital organizing. Help us honor and extend the legacy of James, Andrew, and Michael – and all of the young Freedom Summer 1964 volunteers – by investing in the efforts of Civic Influencers today. #LetFreedomRide #YoungVotes #CivicInfluencers #Democracy #YoungVoices #YouthVote
