CEO/Principal Consultant; Mentor, Advocate, Speaker & Advisory Board President - Coalition for a National Infrastructure Bank; Retired Finance/Infrastructure/Energy Executive - Amtrak
Absolutely right. A major reason for the 1920’s peak is the second National Infrastructure Bank which took the initiative to make PA the center of manufacturing. Now is the time for the US to work on HR 4052 for the creation of the fifth National Infrastructure Bank. Let’s get it done; check out nibcoalition.com. #nationalinfrastructurebank
At its peak in 1920, the railroad industry had more than 11,500 miles of track in the state of Pennsylvania. Today, around 5,900 miles of active track exists. The Schuylkill River corridor is fortunate to have a share of some of the best, well maintained trackage in the state—thanks to Norfolk Southern, CSX, Amtrak and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)—significantly helping the prospects of the return of passenger rail to the Reading, Pottstown and Phoenixville communities. #GoSRPRA #traintravel #PAproud #reading #pottstown #phoenixville #philadelphia #schuylkillriver #pennsylvania

When's the last time you were bursting with pride about the place where you belong? Returning to your childhood hometown after a few years away? Strolling through your alma mater? Visiting your ancestors' homeland for the first time? That feeling- being pulled into the group of people who also love that place, the smells and the sounds that are new and familiar at the same time, the way the sun hits its features... all of that can cause appreciation and belonging and pride to well up inside of us, can't it!? We want that place to continue to thrive! That sense of pride used to be common in railtowns- the very special communities that host railroad. At Railtowns United we're aiming to bring that pride BACK! It should absolutely be a point of pride that you belong to a railtown. When the railroad CEO comes to town it should be an opportunity to underline the warm relationship between the railroad and the community. Here's how we aim to bring pride back to railtowns: 🚂 Reduce friction in the relationship between railroads and communities, 🚂 Connect emergency response teams with best practices and training, 🚂 Identify and implement real world solutions to railtown challenges, 🚂 Ensure elected officials know exactly what their railtown constituents need, 🚂 Help to find and secure the funding for rail-related projects. Keep up with the progress we're making by following Railtowns United, and tell your city council member or mayor about us! #railtowns #railroad #hometownpride #infrastructuregrants

My next few posts will show the collaboration between Parker County governments, DFW regional transportation entities, TxDOT, and private companies to make transportation investments in the County to further enhance economic development and safety. The widening of Ric Williamson Memorial Highway from US-180 to I-20 is a critical investment for the community. Not only will it allow for additional traffic flow, but the improved connection to I-20 will continue to strengthen the viability of commercial and industrial development in west Weatherford. GTM for Enterprise Software - AI, Data & Analytics,Security, Governance, Blockchain| Technical Product Marketer ex-IBM, ex-Tibco, ex-Redis
Bay Area Innovators Quentin Kopp, who served as a California state senator in the 1980s, was one of the first to introduce the idea of high-speed rail to California. “There’s a new kind of train here now. They call it high-speed. The first line is from Paris to Lyon. I said, ‘Well, let’s try it,’” Kopp said, recalling the first time he experienced high-speed rail when visiting a friend in France in 1985. Kopp initiated and persistently advocated for the idea of building California’s own high-speed rail system. His efforts led to the creation of the California High-Speed Rail Authority and a $9.5 billion bond for the project. “I’ve traveled to Japan, France, Germany, and Great Britain, studying high-speed rail. The ballot measure that voters approved called for the first section to run from San Francisco to Los Angeles in two hours and 40 minutes, which would rival air travel,” Kopp said. However, over the years, the project has strayed further and further from its original design. “My biggest accomplishment could have been high-speed rail, but that’s a pipe dream ... They changed the plan. Their idea is to build it from Merced to Bakersfield, which is nonsense,” Kopp remarked. “Today, they estimate the cost is over $100 billion, and they don’t have any money.” In part 2 of this interview with Quentin Kopp, Epoch Times explores what happened to California’s high-speed rail and why he still believes politics is a noble profession. https://lnkd.in/gyhQ4ThY

Quick-build has many advantages to traditional design and build methods of permanent infrastructure. Quick build approaches depend on the goals of a place, corridor, or engagement strategy. I look forward to working closely with my Sam Schwartz colleagues to explore what's possible in ways that seem too daunting for a permanent installation. I know many planners, urban designers, and transportation professionals see real shortfalls in a standard roadway design. We need to allow for re-imagining our roadways, especially those that serve as a multi-purpose, multi-modal, multi-programmable spaces for people and all of our needs. People do a lot of things in public spaces like streets that contribute to a desirable place to exist. As Jeff Speck notes, people are the "indicator species" that demonstrate if a city has streets serving them: People sitting/walking/celebrating, people on bikes, people on scooters, people conducting business, people moving freight, people in cars respecting other people, people exchanging culture, and people behaving socially. We know our streets are platforms for these healthy behaviors and the design can hinder or support such behaviors. Quick-build strategies allow us to test what works to support and unlock our better behaviors. I hope more people take up the challenge. We have a team that brings a lot of lessons learned to apply strategies like a pro. We also can help you win funding to make it happen.
Is quick build right for your project? Associate Dorottya Miketa, AICP, PP and West Coast General Manager Stephanie Shaw will be presenting on this critical intervention at the ITE Arizona/IMSA Spring Conference; 4/3 at 3:30 PM in Wildfire! #UrbanPlanning #UrbanDesign #transportation #mobility
