🔆The SDG India index ✅First launched in December 2018, the index has become the primary tool for monitoring progress on the SDGs in India. ✅It has also fostered competition among the states and UTs by ranking them on the global goals. ✅The index is developed in collaboration with the United Nations in India. ✅It tracks the progress of all states and UTs on 113 indicators aligned with the National Indicator Framework (NIF) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. How are states and UTs ranked? ✅ The SDG India Index scores range between 0–100, higher the score of a State/UT, the greater the distance to target achieved. ✅States and UTs are classified into four categories based on Index score: 🔸Aspirant: 0–49. 🔸Performer: 50–64. 🔸Front-runner: 65–99. 🔸Achiever: 100. Currently, there are no states in the aspirant and achiever category. 📍Key highlights ✅The composite score for India improved from 57 in 2018 to 66 in 2020-21 to further to 71 in 2023-24. ✅India has taken significant strides in accelerating progress on the SDGs between the 2020-21 and 2023-24 editions of the Index. ✅Noteworthy advancements have been observed in Goals 1 (No Poverty), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 13 (Climate Action). ✅The SDG India Index 2023-24 reports a positive trend in the performance of States and UTs in their SDG journey. ✅The scores for States now range from 57 to 79, while UTs score between 65 and 77. ✅This represents an improvement over the 2020-21 scores, where the range was 52 to 75 for States and 62 to 79 for UTs. ✅Uttarakhand and Kerala have taken the top spot among states with a score of 79 each while Bihar was ranked last with a score of 57.

India's Critical Role in Achieving the SDGs: A Data-Driven Look (2023) India's role in the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is unquestionably critical. Here's why, backed by data from 2023: #Population and Economic #Powerhouse: 👨👩👧👦 Poverty Reduction: India has lifted millions out of poverty, reducing the poverty rate from 36% in 2005 to 22% in 2019. 📚 Education: With a net enrollment rate of over 90%, India has achieved near-universal primary education. #Healthcare: 1️⃣ Maternal mortality ratio (MMR) decreased from 178 per 100,000 live births in 2010 to 103 in 2017-19. 2️⃣ Under-five mortality rate (U5MR) declined from 69 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2010 to 35 in 2020. #Renewable Energy: India leads in renewable energy, aiming for 40% of power generation from non-fossil fuels by 2030. #Climate Action: India pledged to reduce #greenhouse gas emissions by 33-35% from 2005 levels by 2030 and achieve net-#zero by 2070. India still faces significant challenges in achieving the SDGs, including: 1️⃣ #Poverty: Despite progress, an estimated 22% of the population still lives below the national poverty line. 2️⃣ #Inequality: Wealth inequality remains high, with the richest 1% holding over 50% of the country's wealth. 3️⃣ #malnutrition : Over 18% of children under five are underweight, and nearly 35% are stunted. 4️⃣ #Gender Inequality: The female labor force participation rate stands at 18.6%, significantly lower than the global average of 47%. 5️⃣ #Access to Clean Water and Sanitation: Only 52% of rural households have access to piped water supply, and only 59% have access to basic sanitation facilities. The Way Forward: Despite these challenges, India's #leadership and #commitment, coupled with its vast resources and innovative potential, position it to play a critical role in achieving the SDGs globally. Continued progress on poverty reduction, education, healthcare, clean energy, and climate action is crucial for India and the world.

Incredible progress has been made to advance all 17 SDGs - from efforts to end poverty and hunger to improving water and sanitation to expanding access to technology and making cities more sustainable.Violent conflicts in different regions of the world are dominating the news; climate change is forcing more and more people to leave the place they call home; and a cost-of-living crisis has tipped millions of people into poverty.This is reflected in UNDP’s latest Human Development Index, which measures a nation’s health, education, and standards of living. #what new approach should we adopt?? 'We need to shift our thinking from ‘what is happening to me’, to ‘what is happening to us’.Achieving 17 very ambitious objectives can sometimes feel overwhelming. However, it is not about individuals having to address all SDGs simultaneously. Anyone person or community or business can commit to addressing one or more SDGs based on their priorities - ultimately enabling us to collectively address all of them over time. Also, Politicians and the government make sure that all those who raise their voice for change be heard clearly.. It is only people of india 🇮🇳 who can bring change, not the government nor the Politicians alone... According to NITI Aayog, India's overall SDG score has risen to 71 in 2023-24, up from 66 in 2020-21 and 57 in 2018. India’s SDG Score Improves, But Inequalities Persist 🌍 India’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) score has seen a significant improvement, rising from 66 in 2020-21 to 71 in 2023-24. This progress is attributed to various policy measures, including the PM Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and the National Food Security Act, which have positively impacted millions of lives. 📈 However, the report also highlights a concerning increase in inequalities, with the score for reduced inequalities dropping from 67 to 65. This decline is largely due to the inclusion of the Gini Coefficient, which measures income inequality. Despite this, the broader parameter of reduced inequality also considers factors like women’s participation in the labor force and crime against marginalized communities. ⚖️ Key Highlights: No Poverty: Score improved from 60 to 72. Multidimensional Poverty: Dropped from 24.8% in 2015-16 to 11.28% in 2022-23. Employment: Nearly 99.7% of persons demanding employment under MNREGS were offered employment in 2023-24. While the overall SDG score improvement is commendable, addressing the growing inequalities remains crucial for sustainable and inclusive development. For India to become a developed nation, we must see growth in every sector and region. The recent Sustainable Development Goals Progress Report highlights our strides in poverty alleviation, reducing poverty by nearly 9 percentage points to 14.96%. The NITI Aayog report shows further reduction to around 11% in 2022-23. Education has improved with better teacher-student ratios, but we need to focus on employment generation, skill development, and capacity building in cultural and social sectors.
