SpaceX launched another batch of its STARLINK internet satellites from California early on Wednesday (Oct. 30). A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 20 Starlink spacecraft, including 13 with direct-to-cell (DTC) capability, lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 8:07 a.m. ET (1307 GMT; 5:07 a.m. local California time). SpaceX streamed the launch via X, formerly Twitter. SpaceX has already launched more than 100 Falcon 9 missions in 2024, about two-thirds of them devoted to building out the Starlink megaconstellation. The company currently operates more than 6,400 Starlink spacecraft in LEO (Low Earth orbit (LEO) is the region of space that orbits Earth at an altitude of 1,200 miles (2,000 km) or less), according to astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell. About 250 of them are DTC satellites. Meanwhile, a Chinese space ship carrying a three-person crew has docked with its orbiting space station as the country seeks to expand its exploration of outer space. The team of two men and one woman will replace the astronauts who have lived on the Tiangong space station for the last six months, conducting a variety of experiments and maintaining the structure. They are expected to stay until April or May of next year. See link in comment below for more information. The team at Space Intel is dedicated to alleviating the risks associated with bird strikes and space objects re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
