Opportunities Are Found Where You Are Present Opportunities rarely come knocking on your door when you're hidden away. They often arise in places where you are least expecting them—at a workshop, seminar, or an informal chat after a meeting. By showing up, you increase your chances of being in the right place at the right time. Imagine attending a conference or joining a project that seems unrelated to your current goals, but through these actions, you meet someone who becomes a future employer or mentor. Or perhaps you discover a new passion or career path you hadn’t considered before. All these possibilities begin with the simple act of being present. 3. Learning Happens in Real-Time While books, tutorials, and online courses provide valuable knowledge, nothing beats real-time, hands-on experience. The truth in this quote is amplified when you show up. Every professional relationship, be it with a peer, mentor, or potential employer, begins with presence. Face-to-face interactions often leave lasting impressions and are far more effective in building genuine connections than a resume or an email ever could. Networking isn’t just about collecting business cards; it’s about forming meaningful relationships. And relationships form when you’re present and engaged. Showing up is more than just an act of being present—it's an intentional step toward growth, opportunity, and success. It builds trust, creates opportunities, fosters learning, expands networks, and helps cultivate resilience. First best practice for podcast hosts is to have a guest application form and then organize a pre-screening call beforehand. It always helps. Second best practice is to use a dedicated platform (like Podmatch) where it's very easy to vet potential guests and contact those that fit our audience the best.

A really interesting piece from our CEO David Batch, and well worth a watch. Two particular bits resonated with me. Firstly the open door policy - It has to be a good thing doesn’t it? To be available to your colleagues whenever possible? I certainly always thought so. The truth is if you are giving your colleagues time but the reality is that you are clock watching, thinking about the task you were doing before they walked in, and not giving them full attention it really isn’t helping you or them. A structured approach can be a lot better. Secondly (and related to the above) Lagom! - not too much, not too little. I had never heard of it until I walked into Premier 5 months ago and would highly recommend it. We’ve all been there where you stop a task you are deep in because the email you have just received can be answered quickly and without much thought, but the reality is if you do this, everything takes a little longer. Partitioning your day can be a great win personally and for the whole business if everybody is disciplined and can really help your sense of achievement IF it is implemented correctly for your business. I would recommend it.

I knew I liked Travis Kelce. He gets it. SOC 2 is an attestation. "This is our program and why you should trust us." Don't let your CPA trick you into thinking it's more than that. They have a checklist of things that look good in a report based on what CFOs find most important about data security.
